I'm guilty of doing this when my girlfriend is driving her car...She was driving down the left lane of a 4 lane freeway. There was a concrete wall of K-rails to our left. This truck started merging over on top of us from the right. My girlfriend panicked and kept edging herself closer and closer to the wall. The truck continued to merge over with out even seeing us! I was seeing the whole thing in slow motion so I reached over and laid on her horn. The truck snapped back over into his lane and my girlfriend slapped my arm away. Her:"WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!"Me:"Well he was freakin sandwiching us into the wall! Why the heck didn't you honk the horn!?"Her:"I didn't want to be mean!"I know it sounds bad, but I was 4 feet closer to being crushed by the truck than she was! I think my action was justified!
Geesh! I wonder what she would have did if she had been driving! No, I've never had anyone do anything like that to me. One time when I was learning to drive (25 years ago) the driving teacher grabbed the wheel to swerve out of the way and hit the brake on his side so I would avoid hitting a dog that ran out in front of me. I got mad at him for doing it to. I thought that he was going to run me into an oncoming car! Does that count?

Doing this is really dangerous, and you're right to be upset. Nobody should be getting in your space or attempting to operate the car other than the driver. I did this once to my dad when I was teen; boy did I catch hell. Rightly so.

I remember driving my friend home about 10 years ago. He was drunk and kept on honking my horn sporadically. Since he wouldn't heed my suggestion to stop, I lifted the pad in the center of the wheel and pulled out the wires.I knew this would work because one winter for some odd reason, my Shadow's horn just went off for no apparent reason other than the fact it was -27C outside.

we used to honk our friends horns all the time. It was great, the people in front of you would look back like (removed)? and the driver would look like the (removed), even though he didn't do it.
I was definitely a victim of attempted horn hijacking this weekend. Someone felt the need to pass me in a double yellow 25mph residental zone and speed off ahead. I was just hoping for a cop to be around the next bend, but my passenger thought that honking at them as they sailed out of view would be a better idea. I practically had to wrestle her hand off of it....what the heck, really? I never would have thought that someone else trying to honk my horn could be so irratating until it happened to me.

I have never had someone honk my horn but I did have a ex-girlfriend grab my arm while driving.... We were on a shell road and we went spinning... luckaly I was able to keep us out of the ditch... and when we finaly stopped I told her you touch my arm/steering wheel while I am driving again.... your walking home... needless to say.. she did not do that again.... and of course I never have done that to anyone... I think it is rude and dangerous.
