Roof top box

Post by cvd6262 »

We bought our Satellite '04 just over a year ago. Since then we've added another child, and with the warmer weather we've started going a few road trips. Space is becoming an issue.I looked into the usual suspects (Yakima and Thule), but they both say the Vibe need towers and crossbars to work with their systems, so I looked elsewhere. Surprise, surprise when I find that Cabela's is selling a Thule SideKick, claiming it will work with factory bars - even though Thule says it doesn't.I really want something bigger than the SideKick (more in the 11-15 cu ft. range), but I'm wondering if there aren't other boxes that *do* work with the Vibe, but the manufacturer says don't.Any experience?-jb

I go camping all the time & was given a Karpak Brand cargo box for my B-Day (thanks Mom!) It is soft sided & about 15 cu. ft. altough there was enough room for a bigger box. Anyways, inside I fit a huge duffel bag w/ my 4 person tent, 2 camping chairs, a pie iron, a fold up aluminum table, 2 lightweight sleeping bags & a backpack Needless to say, I was impressed. I don't have any extra bars on my roof, only the two that came on it. I drove for about 2 hrs up & down hills, and on the thruway. It stayed on with no problems. I didn't drive trough any rain, but when we got back I sprayed down the outside of the carrier with a hose & it didn't leak. I attached a pic from http://www.realtruck.com
