Cladding Paint thought

Post by sloth »

I've been reading a lot on the forum about painting the gray cladding on the 2 tones. I'm thinking of doing this down the road a ways.Well, last night I was finally switching my snow tires off the vibe, and had a thought. What about painting it with something like Rhino liner. The truck bed liner stuff. I think that will stick to anything and should be really durable. I drive down a gravel road everyday so I thought it would help with the rock scratches on the cladding as well.Any thoughts? Anybody try this?

Wouldn't it be a little to rough of a surface when you are done with the rhino liner?

It would be a little rough, but I don't think a much rougher than the current texture on the cladding.

I would be curious to see what it looked like, if you decide to do it, please post a few pics.

i know line-x (and possibly rhino liner as well) can be applied with a smooth texture rather than the rough/grainy texture you're accustomed to seeing in truck beds. the only caveat i can think of to doing this would be that the material might not stick to the plastic. ask a dealer and they can let you know.oddly enough, the first time i saw the cargo area of a vibe i thought that maybe it was a prime target (the floor and the back of the rear seats) for a spray on liner of some sort. if you do go through with this, i *highly* recommend spending the extra cash for either line-x or rhino liner. they both have their fanbase's, but are head and shoulders above the other options in this product space. if you go with something cheap (husky liner, herculiner), and it starts to fade/crack (more when than if), this stuff is nearly impossible to get off without a sandblaster.

Line-X would probably be the one I go with as there is a local dealer.I know they're doing cell phones for $20, so I'd think it would stick to the plastic cladding as well.It will probably be on the back burner for quite a while though.
