i dunno about these things ok you pretty much know which gas stations in your area have the cheapest gas but when you drive several miles out of your way you waste additional gas and time ok you saved 3 cents a gallon you got 12 gallons so you saved 36 cents but you went 10 miles out of you way and say gas is 1.95 or 1.92 and you get 28mpg you actually used 68 cents to get there plus the time you wasted. just a thought.

It probably makes much more sense to people in cities than smaller towns. Smaller towns probably don't tend to have much difference from station to station. You don't have to 'go out of your way' if you don't want to. What I mean by that is, if you drive by 5 gas stations on your way home from work, you can check those stations to see which one you should stop at for gas. They certainly could change by the time you get there, but it stinks to fill up with gas, then drive by a station a few minutes later that is cheaper. Right off the top of my head, I can count 11 gas stations that I drive by on my way home from work each night. If you happen to notice a station has jumped in price, it would also be a quick way to check if any stations have not jumped yet. Considering a lot of times the stations around our area may jump $.20 with a price change, finding the stations that haven't changed price yet can certainly be helpful in saving some money.Of course, using any of these websites is no guarantee. They are only updated as members enter prices they have seen, so they are not always up to date by any means. But they can be a resource to save some money if people tend to enter the prices for your local stations.I don't even use the site myself very often, but I can certainly see why people would. Very similar to the fact that some people clip coupons while others don't. Coincidentally, I just read from a study today that people that use coupons tend to spend 8% more than people that don't, because they buy things they probably wouldn't have otherwise. Or, people will drive more miles to buy something on sale at one store, even though the extra distance they drove may 'waste' the savings if they had bought the item(s) at a store closer to home. It's a mental game I tell you!
