Neat pictures. How long of an exposure did you use?

VERY cool. I wanted to take some shots last weekend when we had a good strong storm, but low and behold my batteries were dead. I will make sure my digicam is charged for the next one though. Thanks for sharing.

What's the trick to taking shots of lightning? Do you just use a long exposure, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, maybe more and hope lightning strikes within the camera's view during that time?

You just keep snapping pictures until you get a shot of lightning, your best bet is to use a tripod to keep the camera steady.

I'll need to try it sometime. They are saying we might have some thunderstorms in my area this evening. I need to experiment and try to get some lightning shots too. I might try a variety of exposer times and use the exposure lock function to get faster response. This picture I took is with a 60 second exposure:

I was in my apartment and heard some loud high pitch sounds. I looked out my window and saw several of these things flying off in the distant sky. I had no idea what they were, so I grabbed my camera and took some pictures. I then emailed Peter Davenport at http://www.nuforc.org. He then responded saying he concluded that they were only airplanes. No, I'm just joking I didn't do that . I knew of that site from a college assignment a couple years ago. That's Dulles Airport in the distance, you can see the towers. Looking out my windows I saw all the airplanes in formation for landing and those taking off. It looks pretty cool at night, makes some interesting pictures. I tried several different shutter speeds with my camera. That 60 second shot really shows where the planes traveled. The forecast for my area says scattered thunderstorms for the next 6 days straight. I've been wanting to wash my Vibe, guess I'll have to hold out some more, but hopefully I'll get some chances to try take some pictures of lightning.
