Leaking Sun Roof.....

Post by burrpenick »

Sorry if i missed this, but my '03's sunroof is leaking. It is coming down the windshield post on the passenger side. I found what looks to be a drain hole on the front corner of both sides, stuck a wire down it, but it stopped after about 16"'s. Is the seal supposed to leak some and then the water drains out this hole? Mine is ok for a short time, but after a steady rain, it must fill up and then starts to run inside, wet the seat and carpet etc. How about some ideas? PS: The weather strip looked alittle wrinked on that side, so I have pressed it back into shape, but should the drain hole be completely open, like a wire should run completely through it? Please respond to penick@nettally.com in TALLAHASSEE

Am I the only unlucky person whose Vibe is starting to smell of mold due to the rain leaking in the sunroof? i

I thought mine was leaking but it drains (as far as I know), but I also found out that there was moisture under the carpet when I was doing my stereo install, but maybe it is due to that. It doesn't leak down fromt he roof, but I suppose it might drain down to where it could get under the carpet. Not sure on that one and don't want to leave you hanging being a new member and all and think this site sucks and nobody responds to you!

Mine leaks a little bit but not that much. I would check out the gutter along the inside and make sure nothing is clogging it. NICE ENVY VIBE btw!!

there is drain tubes at each 4 corners yes they are suppose to be open all the way down to where they exit the body. run a longer stiffer wire down the a-pillar it sounds like its clogged with debris.

thanks all. I can see the headliner wet after it rains, and finally it drips out on the floor and seat. I found the drain holes, but only the front 2 and tried a pretty stiff wire. It didnt go too far. What about some drano? Just kidding.......I hate rust! So, I assume the seal is supposed to seep a little and the drain takes car of the excess- if its working right. That CUDA is amazing! I see one every Thursday at the golf course, I think it's the course owner's but I'm not sure. It's red with the same decals.

you might want to losen the headliner unhook the hose from the sunroof frame and blow some compressed air down the tube.

Mine was leaking a bit due to the sunroof wasn't aligned right. It looked closed but if you pushed on it from the top rear corners it would go down slightly. I took it to the dealership they made a 5 minute adjustment. Since then, no more leaks. BTW, your 70 Cuda looks cool. I used to have a 71 Cuda a few years ago.

Does sound like a plugged up drain as scherry2 mentioned.... I'm also wondering if you may have additional issues up there - that's a lot of water that seems to be entering the car in the first place... During the rain, I get a drop or two out of mine, but nothing major... Drive it through an automatic car wash though, and water flies in with some force, smacking vehicle occupants in the head. I first had this problem when the car was new, they adjusted the moonroof and it was fine for a while but seems to have gotten itself out of whack again. But anyway, I would be interested to see if something is going on with either the seal or the alignment of the glass itself... Water not being able to drain properly makes that worse as well.Water leaks aren't much fun... They stink!Good luck to you.

If you're seeing a wet headliner, I wonder if the drain hose isn't outright disconnected?
