Our FIRST G6 Problem!

Post by ragingfish »

As most of you know, we got a kickass G6 GT fully loaded back in December. We've not had a SINGLE issue since we got the car! It's only been in for oil changes, no repairs. Here we are, with what appears to be our first problem. Got an e-mail from my dad, apparantly the turn signals just up and stopped working. Very odd. When he gets home, I'll check the fuses. I'll also try the hazards. If those work, then my suspicions would lead me to believe the turn signal switch is bad...If I can't find a simple solution (i.e. fuse), we'll be going in for our first warranty repair in 6 months of happy ownership.Stay tuned!

Had the same problem in the Grand Am GT a few months after getting it. Ended up being serviced 5 times before they decided to replace the entire lever, wiring harness, relay, etc.Cost GM over $1,300 to pay the waranty work out to the dealer. The sad thing is it's starting to happen again.

UPDATE:After a quick chat with the dealer, they told him the same thing I thought -- test the hazards. He did, they worked. Then he tried the regular signals again, they worked fine. So apparantly, all is well again...but we'll be keeping out eyes on it.

More than likely, I'd say the flasher is flaky... So it may need a new hazard switch assembly in the near future, as many GM products of the last several years have the flasher integrated into the hazard switch itself...Keep an eye on it... This seems to have been a pretty common issue in the past, and it probably still is...

Sounds like there is a short somewhere in the electrical system. Not an easy fix for the dealership mechanic. Watch it closley, it might bleed into the other systems like the power windows or locks. My sister and her husband's Jeep Cherokee began having things like that go wrong and it slowly escelated into the windows not rolling up, the locks not locking, and the headlights not working once in a while.

Make sure that the harness isn't touching any metal. Like I have a buddy who has a Town Car and his buddies accidently put his brake light harness on his back deck, which grounded out the brake lights, and hence he could not get the car out of park.Inder

The steering columns are built a few departments over from ours. I'll have to take a walk over and see if they install the multiswitch there, or if it goes on at the final assembly plant. Most of the switches and wiring harnesses come from Mexico.
