Is discoloration covered under warranty?

Post by CyBeRjUnKiE »

Hello everyone, now that I finally got my car back, I'm trying to do further inspections of the car. I noticed the the mouldings front left and front right (part #'s 88972303 & 88972304 in gmonline) are discoloured. It looks like the colour is dulled and faded. Would anyone know if this is covered under warranty, or is this just part of the wear & tear part of the car that I have to do on my own and just suck it up. As I said, I'm trying to find anything that I need to do any warranty work as my warranty is close to expiring. Last thing I need to do is dish out $$ for items that could have been covered under warranty. Any other suggestions would be great as well. Not that I'm trying to rip GM out of their money, but I'm just getting best value for my vehicle. Thanks!!

Probably not.GM went throught this with the Avalanche moldings. In the beginning they replaced the plastics, but had too many claims and stopped. There were plenty of GM TSBs on the discoloration. GM went to a process where they applied a product called Armor-Dillo 1 time. After that you are on your own. You probably have to apply 1-2 times a year if you keep your vehicle outside. It is a good product however it is kind of costly. The smallest amount you can buy is the 20ct. retail pack at $108. Since I have an Avalanche and use the product, I applied it to my 2004 Vibe GT. You only need one for the plastic on a Vibe.http://www.armor-dillo.com/

That's not a bad deal at $5.40 an application. I'd do it if I had that kind of molding.Great information I know some of they peps here have had some of the molding replaced due to a sanding effect caused by road debris.
