cup holders?

Post by jwalcik »

okay, now i feel rather silly for posting this, but what's the deal w/ the cup holders in the vibe? why aren't they the same size? i didn't actually notice this until a recent road trip with three other folks in the car. i went to use the second (lower) cup holder in the front center console, and discovered that it's too small in diameter to hold a 20 oz soda bottle (while the upper one will hold one just fine).is this supposed to be a feature? is this only in the '05's? has anyone done anything about this?

It's supposed to be that way. I find it pretty useful. The smaller one tightly holds my water bottle while the larger one holds powerade tightly as well. I think it's better to have 2 sizes rather than 1 so you can find a better fit for your drinks.

I find this feature to be useful as well. In the lower holder I put a water bottle, and in the upper I put my traveling teacup. Very handy they are.

The different sized cup holders are kind of a pain in the (removed). If I have a friend with me and we both have 20oz only one fits in the cup holder. If they wanted to put in different sized holders then they should have put another pop out one in the dash or something to compensate. Just my opinion.

i concur. the 20 oz soda/water/gatorade bottle has been around for quite some time, and is a generally a standard size/shape (at least among coke and pepsi products). it'd be nice if there was a way to make both cup holders hold them, whether i needed to use an insert or not.my last car had removable rubber inserts that were quite handy for when things needed washing, however, reducing the diameter of either of the cup holders any further would make them both worthless to me (rather than just one of them).maybe i'll have to start looking into some sort of (non-destructive) mod. anyone know if the matrix is any different?

I had one of these in my sunfire:It was great. It has two rubber covered things that you screw-adjust until the grip the inside of the stock cup holder...then it is adjustable on top for almost any size cup...Not sure if it'll work with the angle of the vibe's console, but is worth a look at least...
