Hi all,Just got my Vibe last week. I'm very excited. I was wondering if someone can give me a pointer on how to install the FM modulator. This post:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=11993has pictures but does not really say much about how to install it. I figured out how to get the stereo out, so I guess that's a start. Any ways, any pointers to a How-to on this would be greatly appreciated. ( I have a 6 cd changer so I can't use aux2car ) Thanks in advance.Ben
Basically, you'll want to follow the instructions that came with your modulator, but you will need two adapters that will allow it to connect to the antenna port on the back of the radio; if you ordered your modulator from Crutchfield, they should have recommended them when you put the modulator in your cart. If not, you will need them because the GM setup is naturally weird, because nobody can make anything easy. What he did to get it all in there was remove the radio and the glovebox, along with the climate control trim piece and shifter cover (to make it easier to run the wire down into that storage bin). I know nothing about the wiring part though so I can't help you there. He just ran it all along under the dash, ziptied it to a post, and wired it in the radio's wiring harness. The connector that goes to the iPod is running from the FM modulator, alongside the wires that go to the radio, then down behind the climate controls and into the storage drawer. He had to remove the shifter cover to make it easier to drill a hole so the wire would not prevent the drawer from closing. That's about all I can tell you...perhaps others can be of more help with the wiring portion.
Thanks for the response Kari. One question... The glove box is all the way to the right, but the radio and storage bin is in the middle. DO you just pull that out simply so you can reach in there to run the wire straight down, or am I missing something. Any more advice before I do this would be great! Thanks again.
The FM modulator itself is mounted behind the glovebox, with zip ties. The shot that shows the side of the modulator was taken with the glove box open, but in order to get it up in there, you'll have to take it out.
