Just ordered it, got my fingers crossed. Went through the DYI projects and changing the HU and decided that this would be the easiest (and cheapest) way to listen to my Rio Carbon in the Vibe. I stopped by one of the local stereo shops today, they quoted me $140. The price from Discount Car Stereo was $85. Felt kinda bad, but that's a big difference.

No problem...hoping it will be here by the weekend. From everything I've read on other posts it should work just fine. I never do anything to my Vibe without researching it here first.

same here. the problem i got here in cali is that everyone says they will fix it. but there is two ways they will fix it. take it apart poke around and mess it up more. or do a mikie mouse job. second, make you spend so much money till they make something from scratch. i just went to day to a shop and they sad they always works on this car and lexus and all that expensive ones. i asked him plain and simple. do you know what you will do will it work. again, bs given...
Tell me about it..started out trying to replace the HU, Circuit City didn't have the parts and Best Buy gave me the wrong parts...so I took it all back and ordered this. I can't figure out why nobody can figure out the parts to this car...I understand it's a bit more complicated than just a straight GM or Toyota, but...

I'm don't think this will work with the Vibe 6CD, though I hope you find it does. At least, unless you have a BAND button, though I've never seen a Vibe 6CD that has one. It'll work with the 04/05 1CD, though. Let us know how it goes.

And I agree- it's so much easier when the audio system is its own little world and doesn't interfere with or get interfered by the rest of the car.

I had a lot of trouble getting the wire harness and install kit when I was looking for a new HU. The guy at Circuit City gave me the choice of two harnesses one for $60 that would keep my door chimes & one for $12, no chimes. Don't know how much truth there was to it...Best Buy went through 3 harnesses and 2 install kits and I still didn't come home with the right parts. Took it all backI thought it would work with the 6 CD, isn't there a double adapter so you can still use the changer??? Maybe I've lost my mind...

The only other 6-disc changer is a 6-disc in-dash changer that's part of the radio. It's one whole double-din unit.As for replacing the factory radio, you need a 70-2003 (or 80-2003 if you're at Circuit City)

That is why we are lucky, we don't have that. I have a aftermarket radio in my car right now (see the link in my signature). It cost me about $40 for the dash kit, wiring harness and the speaker convertor (for the moons and tunes amp). I would recommend against buying any cables from Best Buy, they have outrageous prices. Got mine from Circuit City, wish I would have bought it at meijers or walmart .
this is what pisses me off... everyone says it can be done, but no 1 has done it. i do not want to be the first for someone to screw my car. not that i want someone else but, but shops asume mo liabity if they **** you car...

(That's not a guess or speculation). The only complication to a new head unit is the factory M&T amp, unless you have OnStar or XM. The problem is properly driving the factory amp from the new head unit. Others on here have been through that before, I believe. Maybe Jahntassa can point you in the right direction.

If he wants to add just an aftermarket radio (meaning, remove the factory radio from the car, and put in another brand of radio), then you do not need the GMRC-01, you need the 70-2003 wiring harness from Metra (or 80-2003 if you go to Circuit City), you also need the 40-GM10 antenna adapter, and the Metra 99-8205 dash-fitkit to make the new radio fit. The first part of this post is an aux-in adapter, that as far as I know, will only work with 04+ Vibes with either the standard radio or M&T. Not the 6-disc changer. That'll allow you to run a wire to a portable MP3 player, or some such thing..As said, the GMRC-01 is not needed for any version (to date) of the Vibe.

Yss, the device that we were talking about was to hook up an external mp3 player (like an Ipod) to the stock stereo instead of using an FM Modulator or whatever. If you just want to play mp3's you've burned on a CD you need to replace the stereo. If you have the M&T you also need another part that has something to do with amp.Didn't mean to be confusing. If you want to take the Vibe somewhere to get a new stereo put in find all the part #'s that everyone has provided and use those, neither Best Buy or Circuit City came up with the right parts in their systems.

If so, then the stock speakers are at 2 Ohms, and you'll have to use the factory amplifier. Which is fine.. If you have just the stock system (no tweeters in the top of the doors), then you'll be good to go.Now, do you have M&T or no? And do you just want to replace the factory radio with something that'll play MP3's? Or do you want to hook up something like an iPod?

Alright, what most people have done in your case is get a level-matcher. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-n...4GM02Now, this is just an example. In that picture is the Scosche FA-1, which allows you to adjust the output level of the radio. You can probably get it at wal-mart too. What you do is install this between the harness for the car (70-2003) and the harness that comes with the radio. It allows you to turn down the outputs of the radio to a level the M&T amplifier can easily handle. That should help any issues.
