San Antonio Meet - Potential Dates

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

I'm watching and waiting too...and I guess that's the problem. We're all waiting for someone else to organize this thing! I'm a bit reluctant to try and organize an event not in my hometown (Houston), but I'd be glad to work with a San Antonio native who can check out potential sites/hotels/GM dealers in the area. I'm familiar enough with the Hill Country to know how to get around and I'm pretty handy on the Internet! The best thing to get this going is just pick a date! Considering today's the 5th, Memorial Day weekend may be too soon for most of us to plan for. I'd set up a poll, but it will only allow you to vote for one date, which won't work. So, here's what I'm asking you to do:If you are interested in attending a Vibe meet in San Antonio, Texas this year, message me. Include in your message at least three (3) weekend dates that you could attend (a list is below).I will update the list below with the number of votes (in a separate thread). I will close voting by May 15, 2005. Obviously, if we don't pick a date until mid-May, it makes a late-May/early-June date unlikely, so you won't see those weekends listed. Also note that it can get HOT in July & August! If you live in San Antonio and are willing to help coordinate this, message me. We need to work on a list of places and events for the meet. Nothing fancy, just don't want to be sittin' around...Get those messages to me! And start polishing up your rides!-Glenn Potential Weekend Dates (Saturday-Sunday):June 18-19June 25-26July 2-3*July 9-10July 16-17July 23-24July 30-31August 6-7August 13-14August 20-21August 27-28September 3-4**September 10-11September 17-18September 24-25October 1-2October 8-9*Independence Day weekend** Labor Day weekendHere's where the votes will be updated:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=16279

Great initiative, Zuben. However - mayhaps we need to look at another location, before worrying about the dates?Of the people responding: me(GMJAP), Zuben, damronjr, MoonDogg, Bud_one, and NascarXprtone is from LA, 2 from North Dallas, 2 from Houston area, and 1 from San Antone.Sounds like a Dallas area meet might the most centrally located place that might allow everyone to come. Would be the least total driving, I think, especially for MoonDogg coming from LA.Thoughts?

Actually, if MoonDog is driving, San Antonio would be closer than Dallas and would be a straight shot down I-10 for the entire route. I've done that run from Houston to L.A. before (not in the Vibe, though). If he was gonna fly, Southwest Airlines has some direct flights from LA to SA.The reason I like San Antonio is because it's neutral, centrally-located in Texas (Austin would be my first choice there), got lots of attractions, has beautiful driving conditions (Hill Country). My ¢¢.

Yeah, now that I look at where Patterson is, you're probably right. Actually it would put Houston in the middle of everyone. But who wants to go to Houston? (I lived there for 8 years, so I feel I've earned the right to bash it a bit )

Well, I live in Houston and still don't want to have a meet here! Funny; when I first started this thread, there was all this talk of having it in the Big D...where are those people? (Besides GMJAP, of course)

Okay, survey says "Remember the Alamo!" - Seems like San Antonio is still the top spot.
