odd braking... some pop

after the dealer service put new pads and machined my rotors since my old ones were bad at only 2500 miles, i see that the front seem to brakes more. also the hand brake needs more lever to go up. also there is some pop from the back when i brake or the brakes gets realeased. i am under teh impresion they did not adjust the back brakes after they put in the new pads and machined the rotors.

Sounds like they may not have bled the brake lines properly..but that's just me. I'd take it back to them.

If they did not touch the rear brakes then no bleeding required. That pop you hear only when releasing the E-brake? It is possible they are out of adjustment now that the fronts are new again. I'm with Christian on this one, take it back for them to get it right. Nothing like having a good car going and not being able to stop when you need to.

Hmm, I kinda had a popping noise going on with my rear brakes too... It would pop when you apply the brakes, also when setting the parking brake... I really can't describe the noise, something mechanical in nature though. It went away, haven't heard it since... Dad and I did try to take to take off one of the drums when I took off the snow tires and switched back to my alloys... Wanted to check the shoes bakc there, but the drum just wouldn't come off so we decided to leave it be instead of trying to beat the heck out of it.

I'd say they are not releasing like they should. I'd try to bleed the lines.

I'm noticing a pop but only the first time i brake after i back out of a parking spot and brake while going backwards. Then when i start to go forwards, the first use of the brakes causes a 'pop' in the back. After that it's all fine.at first i thought it was due to the parking brake. but i've tried applying the parking brake and then releasing and driving forward. the first use of brakes doesn't produce the pop. It appears to only happen after i have to brake while backing up.I did have them do the 'brake' tune up the last time it was in to clean things up after winter. Did they forget to adjust something?Or mis-adjust something???

Hi Everyone,I had read on some site (might have been here or a celica site)that the popping that occurs when changing directions is the pads moving in the calipers. From what I remembered, this was a normal thing but the pop, or click sound could be lessened by applying brake grease to the back of the brake pad. This apparently helps the pad move smoothly, without the click. This only happens when changing direction because once the pad shifts, you'd have to brake going the other direction for the pad to shift back. Have it checked but ask about the Brake Grease thing.DaveP.S. If I remember correctly, it said this tends to be more noticable after using a spray brake cleaner.

thanks for the info Dave.They said they cleaned my brakes (which i thought was a good idea after winter salt, etc.) and they probably didn't apply (enough?) grease afterwards.The strange thing is it sounds like it's coming from the rear drum brakes though....could it be a similar issue?
