Water inside doors

Post by gillie1 »

Howdy,I changed the front door speakers last night from the factory units to some Infinity 6002's. When I had the doors apart, I was surprised at the amount of moisture inside them. On the weekend I had been through a touch-free carwash, and I guess it must have shot water into the doors. The old speakers weren't wet, but there was moisture on them and the surrounding metal. How do you guys (gals too!) prevent water from ruining your new speakers?- Al

WELCOME TO GENVIBE!!As long as the Infinity speakers aren't paper cone (and I think I have the same speakers, they aren't paper) You should be OK, you will get a little bit of water inside the door if the seal between the window and rubber seal isn't exactly perfect. A little bit of moisture shouldn't hurt your speakers, a lot of water may do a little damage.

If you're very concerned about it, some foam speaker baffles can help keep the water away. If they're wet while the speakers aren't running, it's possible for rust to accumulate on the magnet, and equally possible for the voice coil to rust, and ruin the speaker. I'm just saying it's possible. It happened in my Probe, but it also had a problem of water dripping directly on the magnet.http://www.crutchfield.com/S-e...XT652

I had a similar problem, since i live in michigan last time i pulled out my speakers there was ice on the speakers. I but a plastic shield to into the door were the speaker goes to keep the water away from the speakers. Most cars have a plastic material that blocks the water from getting on any of the electronics
