Lets see guys... 2003 Vibe GT not barely worth $12,000 losing value every month with stock 180HP at 7000RPM... Or... trade in with a down payment on a 2004 Subi WRX STi 300HP of the same colour? The STi is used, one owner who drove across the US with it, I think has 20,000miles on it.But she is still working out deals and stuff, might end up with a Legacy GT instead. But the main thing is she drives everywhere for her job. She needs something reliable and with some balls with awd.

If used, then sure that may be a better deal... I have to lease for work but I usually own my cars for 10 plus years. Nice without a payment for a few years and I am not a person that has to have a new car every 2-3 years like lots in Mich.

That way they can get a new vehicle every 3 or 4 years, always have factory warranty, and they don't keep accumulating debt from never really paying off their previous vehicles. For people who put lots of miles on a car, it probably wouldn't be more cost-effective to lease, but I'm willing to bet that for most of the "new car every 3 years" people, it would be...
well i called and briefly spoke to the finance guy. they won't budge on the numbers because the STI price is set by the owner. after speaking witha few of the other STI owners here in town on NASIONIC, i don't feel his high book price tag is necesarily worth it. and if they are only going to give me wholesale for my trade, i'll be getting screwed. so not sure how badly i want this car (even though i do). i spoke to the subaru dealership here and they have an 05 legacy gt limited completely loaded with less than 500 miles on it. it's on the used lot because they were going to put it into the rental lot, but decided against it. it's the same price as the used STI w/o the 22K miles on it. they said they could probably get me a little better trade for my car as well since they have a more of a profit margin to start. so there's the dilemma now. i like both, but the sti... well, it's still an sti! lol. but 250 hp/250 tq isn't something to laugh at either! i can add a chip, exhaust, and intake and get close up to it!

ok, it's official, bye bye STI..... and hello to mr. legacy gt limited! oooh it was so nice! but same issue, i'm so far under on my car, i don't know if i can come up with all the cash to get it. stupid depreciation! but if there's a will there's a way! mwu haa haaa! well, hopefully. we'll see. but this car is totally loaded! mmm leather!
Quote, originally posted by rAERRK »It's too bad they didn't make the GT awd yes. i thought it was when i decided to purchase it. by the time i could buy one, i'd already fallen in love with it, so when i found out it was only fwd, i still bought it. kinda wished i had bought the awd because the resale value up here is excellent! but i have a potential buyer who MAY be able to, but has to talk to her father. I'd give her a great deal on the car including the bumper (that's still in canada), winter tires/rims, pay for the taxes and registration fees, etc. still take a large hit, but not as big as what the dealer would do.
see im pretty upside down on mine too, and would love a smaller payment. however, i have decided to stick it out and pay for a couple more years, that way, when i trade, i wont have to screw my self all over again. i learned a lot buying a car i can barely afford.

my wife and i alternate. Whenever we buy a car we plan to have payments for 3 years (set it up that way). So that every 3 years, we're buying a new car but alternate so that way we get rid of our cars when they're 6 years old. From what i remember, at the 6 year mark your car has reached a level where any milage you get from it is 'bonus'. This does keep us making car payments all the time but we always have at least one vehicle under full warranty (generally). If any of you have a better way of doing this, i'd love to hear some ideas....so far this seems to be working for us.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

Sounds like a pretty good system, by financing over just 3 years you cut down on interest paid and minimize the chance of being upside down. When one of the cars turns 6, if it is in good condition and reasonable mileage, you might consider keeping it a bit longer, a year or 3, have no payment and save the payment each month toward the next purchase. I kept my last car 11.5 years (paid it off in 3 yrs), still have my wife's old car (12 years, passed it on to our son). By keeping them, when it came time to replace them I paid cash. Much nicer to be earning interest rather than paying it to someone else.

I am kind of happy for you are not getting an STi, you never know how the owner treated it on those 22,000 miles. I second silver on this Hope!I think you'll be happier with the Legacy GT. The ride is a ton better, the boost comes on very strong and 250 HP is still a ton more than the Vibe! My buddy had an STi and had to pay almost $CAN2,500 for wheels and snow tires. After one year on the cratered roads of New Brunswick, he traded it on a Legacy GT. He doesn't miss the 50 HP or the punishing ride... PS: Someone mentioned no GT AWD. ALL Subies are AWD.PPS: I'd also count not have that humongeous scoop and the Red Baron rear wing as pluses...
Honestly from the moment we left the dealerships with our teasured Vibes we went upside down. Trade In is NEVER what we want and honestly as much as we complain about it... its not going to change.Unless some person without a clue comes along, simply LOVES my wife's 03 pontiac Vibe GT with its more crack then a plumber windshield and the rigged up front bumper. And if all the red interior parts are suited to their tastes and are willing to spend $13,000 for the car then COME ON DOWN! lolBut realisticly the car needs work and the dealerships are looking at all of that when considering how easy will it be or not be to resell her car to someone else. One place drove it around the block and offered $11,000 for it. The Subi place drove it and came back with $10,800 which the sales man said could possibly be marked up to $11,000 to match the other place. In the end though I'm sure both of them saw the same thing...Now this Legacy GT... ok I'm in love with it to. FULLY loaded with leather and all that power makes my heart race lol. I still like the STi but like Hope, he wants to much for his car as well. Its got curb rash, over 20,000miles and NO radio in the dash. Plus its not loaded and doesn't even have fog lamps. On top of that Hope hates the rear spoiler. The Legacy GT is more for her and I really like the colour of it. Oh I mention it has duel exhaust? Yet another reason she loves it.But paperwork is a pain, getting numbers where you want it when your limited in flexability to begin with... If I already had a job and my car was up here and all that I'd be more willing to help her out with this. I am as it is but hardly as much as I would like to because I want this car to.

Well, hopefully she does get this vehicle because it has plenty of potential. And Hope, just to tell ya, Subi's do not need an intake. Keep the stock intake. These should be the mods that you should do:turbo back exhaust (cobb tuning)up-pipe (cobb tuning)samco intake, intercooler, turbo hosesmaybe a sti intercoolercobb tuning accessportkartboy short shifter. And, another thing you might want to do is get any exhaust pieces without the cats. Hope has already been doing research on bolt on kits and prices. And since scraping up the money to try and get this car is not easy, I'm not about to let her blow everything she makes from here on in onto the car lol. It will be a while before she mods this car should we hopefully get it.I mention it come with a sunroof? lol. All she needs to do would be tint the windows.

Quote, originally posted by silverawd26 »Subaru is hardcore with their warranty, they will void the warranty for most of those mods. I was never under that impression. They were cool with my brother's friend's car, after he got the turbo back exhaust. And I thought that Mitsubishi was real *****y bout their warranty. Actually, from what I have heard is that if you take an EVO to the track, you warranty gets voided because there are Mitsubishi reps that come to these tracks to see if anyone with those cars run. If so, they write down their VIN # and in a few weeks, they get a letter in the mail saying that their warranty has been voided.Inder

yes and i've said since june that i'd like the legacy gt limited. but sadly, it's officially the vibe's last night and ironically the second birthday. trdvibe still looks pretty damn good dispite her faults. *sigh* i'll miss her, she did after all, introduce me to the love of my life. so i will owe her that, not to mention many good friends. of course, i'll still be hanging out with my vibe buddies. besides, phil still has his!
Whatever you buy it will depreciate, 90% of the vehicles on the road do quickly. Unless you buy a vehicle with a high sticker thus a higher residual value, that is different. Unfortunately modding a vehicle too does not help resale and selling a vehicle in with broken items hurts too. Sometimes it is better to leave well enough alone and why sink more money into a depreciating asset...
True, which is why I stripped my S-10 before I traded it in so I could at least sell the parts to make a small portion of the $$ back vice trading it in and getting the exact same amount with all that stuff! (Still haven't sold much of that stuff BTW )

And even though I am aware that my Vibe is also losing value by the second I still plan on keeping it for a little bit. I'm in no financial position to trade it on on something anyway. Besides even after having a test ride (cause she would not let me drive) in the Legacy GT, I still love my Vibe. Of course I wish it was faster and more power but don't we all suffer from the Tool Man Taylor desease?I'm more then happy to keep my car for a while yet. Of course I will end up trading it in for probably a Subi one of these days. Its life, it happens. Sadly yes by that time my car won't be worth crap but I'll take off everything and sell what I don't want. For example I know my rims would fit on her Legacy GT hehe... and IMO would look nice.

My rims have two bolt patterns... so they may or may not BUT the tire size is dead on with that 17" rim. But they are staying on my Vibe hehe. She can keep the ones on the GT though the GT has very nice rims. Plus Hope isn't into gunmetal... I'm into it but in an average dose. A buddy of mine painted his Sunfire GT gunmetal with white rims. man it looked nice but to much of that colour for me.I believe her first mod will be tinting those windows. It already has a factory in dash 6 disc cd changer but I know it she will be wiring up her subs and ambs. There goes the trunk space lol.
