Cool, always good to see another Opera user! I've been using the beta versions of 8 for some time now on my Linux boxes, and it's been sooo good... On the Mac, they only had 7.54 as the latest. I bought a copy of 7.54 when I got my mini, but after using the 8 betas, I really missed the new features of 8. Especially the close buttons they added to the tabs. But as luck would have it, they finally have a beta version of 8 out for us mac users. The Linux version rocks, so hopefully the OS X version will as well. I'll let you guys know. Opera rocks. 'nuff said. It's a product that I've had no problems with purchasing several times over now. I certainly want to support them, they deliver a quality browser. And it's fast too.

i actually remember using the original release of opera on windows 95... i still remember the confused faces on some of my coworkers when i had four webpages open simultaneously inside the same window. i've been a safari/firefox user for the last couple years, maybe it's time to give opera another look.

Oh yes! Those were the days! I too remember when I first installed Opera 2.something on my old Windows 95 machine. Dang, that was 1998 or so! I fell in love with the speed and lack of bloat in the browser, but most of all I really came to appreciate the multiple document interface. It didn't take any time at all until I decided that I would never use another browser with this essential feature. I always keep a ton of windows open, so there is nothing worse than having all of those cluttering the taskbar. Keep them contained in the browser where they belong! I've been using the beta for 8 on my mac mini all night - it's wonderful. No complaints here. They've added some super cool features - most importantly the little trash can icon where you can click and reopen a tab that you closed out earlier. I like how they finally put the close buttons for the tabs on the tabs themselves, instead of on the window. But one thing they didn't add is the ability to customize popup blocking. I like how Firefox allows you to specify domains where you'd actually like unrequested popups (i.e. forums.genvibe.com) so you can get IM's and things like that. Bummer. But at least the toolbars are very flexible, so I just added the popup blocking preferences to the bottom and I'll manually turn it off or on as necessary. All in all, 8.0 is running a heck of a lot better than 7.54 was on my mac mini. Not the quickest for starting up (then again Safari and Firefox both are just as bad) but once you get it running, it does well. Actually feels zippier than Safari or Firefox. Big surprise there, Opera has always been significantly faster, to me at least. And it's kind of amazing to think of how far Opera has come since I started using it way back when, yet it still hasn't gained too much bloat despite the numerous features it offers. 4.6 MB download for the OS X version, that's practically unheard of in this day and age. Yes folks, give Opera a try. It isn't a "free" browser, but it's well worth the $40 to register.
