Plastic Around Cigarette Lighter

Post by velma »

Hi!I just bought an 05 Vibe in December & love it. Last weekend I was driving and my rather intoxicated friend was using my in dash cigarette lighter. When he was putting the lighter back in, he missed the outlet and I now have a lighter burn on the plastic. I was surprised how quickly it melted. Is there any way I could replace this piece? I have a little sticker of Patrick Starfish over it now, but I would like to replace the piece. The burn is within the small square of plastic around the outlet. Please help.... I'm sure this has happened to someone else!?

I looked on the site & didn't see anything plastic, only mechanical stuff. Also stuff for '05 models aren't on the site yet. Do you think if I emailed customer service about the part, the interior color would match from an '04? I've never been in an '04, is the interior the same as the '05?

In any case, if you enter the part number into the search box on the web site, it should come up. I really don't like how their descriptions aren't very descriptive, though...makes it hard to find things and figure out if you're really getting the right thing, and I believe there are no returns either... Edit: Yes, everything below the radio/radio bezel comes out as one connected piece, all the way down to the silver ring around the shifter. There is a post somewhere around here about getting it out yourself if you choose to do that. I think it's in the DIY forum, and I know it's one of ragingfish's "how to"s.

THANKS EVERYBODY!! YOU ROCK!! I was kinda bummed out cause I figured I would never be able to find the part. I mean, it isn't the end of the world, but the burn mark annoyed me--my Vibe being my first brand spankin' new car & all !

I should have tossed him out of the car !He felt really bad about it (the next day, of course) and he did offer to pay for the part though, so I guess I still like him. Accidents happen, ya know? I'm just glad I can fix it

Oh, I get it! I just looked up that part & it says "interior electrical instrument panel" but is says year 2003. Will this work in an 2005? I'm sorry if I sound dumb, but I don't want to order the wrong part, with the no return policy and all - Plus it has no price & I can't add it to my cart!

welcome to genvibeBack when I was 2 or so years old, my older brother took the cigarette lighter in my mon's car and burned a ring in the vinyl seat. My mon used to mention it, with this weird sort of smile, affectionately referring to him as a playful scamp. When I was about 9, she got a new car, and about a month later I realized I could be forever in her affection too, so I did the same thing to her new car. Needless to say, she didn't react the way that I thought she would, I was quite surprised by the force of her reaction Anyway, congrats on the cool new car.

Mom didn't think it was too playful when you burned her car, huh? Amazing how that works out! I remember when I was little, I was waiting in the car while my mom payed for gas. I was getting rather sick of listening to her Tears for Fears cassette. I pulled the tape out and it started to get stuck. I pulled it harder I managed to wreck the cassettte and the tape player I'm still hearin' about that one

The same thing happened to me, Velma... twice. I was a little intoxicated and went to put the lighter back and missed. Now I have two small burn indentations. I took a chrome marker and "painted" it. It looks decent now, but now I'm going to order the part and replace it.No more using the factory lighter for me!
