I am looking for some ideas to get around the stock sub in my 2005 gt. I saw the infinity basslink, but I am not sure if it would fit in or would be able to mount where stock sub is.Is this a lost cause? If it is, how easy is it to bypass the stock amplifiers? Can I use one amp to power the sub and another to power the cabin? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
The Basslink is a completely different setup all together, it is more of a stand alone sub than the Monsoon sub. The stock amp can be bypassed, you have to buy a metra wiring kit that hooks the input and output wires together that go to the amp. DON'T TRY TO DO THIS YOURSELF!!! Just buy the kit and chalk it up to saved time. It would be very possible to have an aftermarket amp power the cabin. You would have to run RCA cables or high end output from the wiring harness to the amp and then run the wires back to area behind the HU to connect to the wires that go to the cabin speakers. Don't do this until you bypass the stock amp because you will be double amping the signal and it would A.) sound like poo or B.) blow your speakers to kingdom come. Most likely option A.And finally, yes you can put as many amps in the car as you want as long as your alternator can handle to power draw and you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the quick response and input. I was actually going to have the work done. So would the bass link be a good choice or is it more practical to bypass the stock amp and use the existing monsoon sub? I thought the basslink could be the same size as the stock sub and just swap them out.
I'm not sure, you would have to look at the basslink for a sizeup but you would be defeating the purpose of the basslink system. From what I have heard from other members, the basslink is great though. Maybe some other members will chime in with a better, and first hand, account of how well the basslink works.

If you want to upgrade the stock sub, you can probably switch out the woofer in there, if you can find one to fit, and find an amplifier that'll work for it. Generally aftermarket subwoofers are a lot deeper than factory, and they require a lot more power. If you're willing to ditch the factory enclosure entirely, a basslink will probably do the trick, but it won't look stock.

I don't know if I mind it not looking stock as long as I don't have to give up cargo space. You don't happen to know the dimensions of the stock monsoon enclosure or the dimensions behind that panel in general do you? If I can go into my installer's place with a little information, it might help him come up with some ideas.P.S. Is the monsoon 8 or 6.5?
are you sure its an 8" in the 05? cuz thats what i have and after i took it apart it looked a bit smaller and if i recall, crutchfield claims its a 6.5. just double checking

I have an 06 and I just replaced it with a 6.5 shallow mount subwoofer from Kicker. It only sounded good after I stuck alot of batting material in the sub enclosure. The stuff that is in pillows. Bought it at walmart 5 bucks a roll.
