Cracking Window Problem Information

Well I took my door panel off with the intent of fixing the cracking window problem today, and here is where I am. Here is the vicinity of the problem, and the area I was working.Here are some great pictures of the problem. As you can see the piece of metal the stops the door from swinging open is getting into the path of the window when the door is closed. Now that I've found the problem, I need some help fixing it, since my car as over 50,000 miles, and is out of warranty. I tried a few things today like switching the we'll call it the door stop from the passenger side. The part is the same for both sides, you just need to flip it over, but to my disappointment, the passenger side door stop did the same thing in the driver side door. I also tried grinding part of the door stop off, but I couldn’t get the clearance I needed while still keeping the function of the door stop. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because at this point I'm stuck. I'll be out of town on business for the next week so I won't be able to check in until then. For the people with this problem remember that you can safely roll your window down as long as your door is totally open.Also maybe a mod can sticky this post, since it sounds like a wide spread problem, that could be potentially dangerous.

I'll take a look at my door tomorrow (not having that problem) and see what looks different.

Thanks, it's very dramatic when the bottom of the window hits that piece of metal, I could definitely see it breaking someone’s window, plus it's really hell on window tinting.

Nate 66,You should be the head technician for GM!! I brought my car to the dealer twice regarding this issue (two different dealers) the first one said they just needed to grease the tracks and the fact that I tinted the window caused the problem. The second adjusted the regulator and of course the problem continued. After printing your pics, and bringing them to the dealer finally... I have peace and quiet!! Thank You, on behalf of all with this problem!!!

Thanks Base, glad they finally got it fixed for you, but did they mention how they fixed. Either way, I'll figure something out to this weekend, right now I'm over 400 miles away from my car.

Nate66, all they saud was that they adjusted the door limiter. I think the bent the pience to allow it to clear the window. Thanks again, let me know how it goes when you get the vibe back,
