Clutch question in MI

Post by twilson777 »

Dying clutch @ 36K. Need to replace.I would like to get it replaced and of course cheap and fast. Since I had to take our other car-the VAN- for work, I need to get this car fixed for the wife to drive. GM dealer told me $1100 and I am looking for other places to get it fixed. From what I have seen the clutch is ~$350 for the RPS sport series clutch. Are there other parts I would need-bolts etc.? What direction should I look for a mechanic? Toyota dealer, local, or trans shop. All help with this would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forums. I would recommend the ACT clutches, and a shop that I would recommend is a little far from you, but they do great work. The name of the shop is Shamrock Automotive. Number is 313-434-1989. I get all of my car parts installed there. I just got my cams installed there. Not a easy task for $300.Inder

To replace the clutch you have to remove the tanny. I can tell you that this is not a fun task. Next time I will pay someone to do it. I found a shop that would do the labor for about $400, I was too cheap before. If there is a next time, I will pay that gladly I got a base clutch kit for about $200. The dealer's $1100 quote seems a lot higher than you should pay. Check around for a local shop that does tranny work.Do you have a GT or base? What are your clutch symptoms? welcome to genvibe

Welcome! I would just get it done @ a dealership. They'll probably have the part in stock and install asap.

Cottmans Transmission on Grand River in East Lansing. Had a clutch and tranny done there for 300 in labor plus parts. This was a few years ago and on an older honda...but they stand behind their work.

If you can get MWR to do it, go for it. They're pros when it comes to 1zz and 2zz's
