bug deflector

Post by Waxler6942 »

Where can you find a perfect fit bug deflector/hood protector that installs with clips instead of screws or tape?

I have a Lund Xterminator bug shield on mine.It uses four pieces of heavy plastic tape to protect the paint. Then fourC clamp type clamp that uses a flat end screw, to put pressure on the under side of the hood to hold it on. There are no drilling holes for the screws. I am guessing that what you mean by screws. I have removed it to clean the hood, if you remove the tape you cannot tell it was on.

Is the "plastic tape" you are describing (for use on paint) readily available as a separate, simple inexpensive item?

I not sure, I know it is a 3M product. The speed shop I deal with is closed on Mondays.I'll call them Tuesday to see if it is a common part.I emailed Lund tech support. When I get an answer, I'lllet you know. I think I was lucky, I had two sets of tape in the box when I got it.

I tried to blowup trbvibe’s pictures to get a better look at the bug shield. It looks like the Xterminator is more body contoured where the Carflector is less contoured. And the Xterminator’s mounting clips go through the top to the bottom. And Carflector’s looks like it mounts from the bottom. I can’t tell if they both use the same kind of fastener. The Xterminator has a straight bottom edge where the Carflector looks like it has a rounder bottom edge. Please correct anything that I am wrong about, trbvibe. Unless the way they are fastened to the hood is different. It comes down to, do you want contoured or the less contoured look.

if you want to use either for what they are actually made for, don't think it's going to help a whole lot. i took mine off after 2 summers worth of chips, window dings, and cracks. imo, it sucked and looked like crap on my vibe. but that's just my opinion.
