Anyone here have COSMO CAI for Pontiac Vibe 2003 installed?

Post by CyBeRjUnKiE »

Hi I'm from Toronto, and I'm having some problems with my CAI. My engine light is on and I think the mechanic didn't install it properly. If someone could please help shed some light to my problems. Please take a detailed picture of the intake installation. In the instruction manual it says I dont need one sensor, which one is it? Also, it says I don't need one of the vacuum valves. Please help.I can also be reached through my cell phone if anyone is local enough to help me. Thanks!!

I have an Injen installed on my base 04 Vibe. There is really not that much different between brands of intakes other then the names. Your engine light is on? Is the car running fine at all? When I installed mine I accidently did something to the Mass Airflow sensor (MAS) which in turn would not allow my engine to rev over 2800RPM.If I still lived near TO I'd have you pop over while I used a scanner from the dealership I worked at. But neither is the case now... Your engine light could be on for any number of reasons, right down to a loose gas cap and not even be related to the CAI in any way.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately it was neither of the suggestions you made, But I did find someone to help me, and I'm now happy to say it's working properly now. And wow, nice sound, I didn't realize how much of a difference a CAI would do on the sound....haven't felt too much of a difference as of yet, but possibly when I drive it on the highway I'll notice. Thanks again!

you have automatic or manual transmission? You really get to hear the difference at and above 4000RPM.And what did it turn out to be? Vac line on wrong or something simple I take it?

Yes it turned out the the vacuum hoses were on incorrectly. After putting them in the right places, I noticed the car more stable and no longer have the shakes as if it was to stall. But yes, I hear the roar at around 4000RPMS in second gear, in first gear it sounds almost the same just a little louder, but in second I hear the sound lower it's decibal a notch and hear a roar instead. I'm quite happy now that it's been fixed. Can I ask you if you leave yours on during the winter season? Some people seems to remove it for the winter to avoid salt and the slush being sucked in. Any ideas on this? And yes I run manual transmission.

I leave mine on all winter and we get a lot more snow and slush up here than in Toronto. There is no problem with sucking in slush etc.

Thanks, are you using the same CAI? I've seen from Injen a cover for the filter to protect the filter, I'm just wondering if you're using the Injen and if it already has this cover.

Yes, I have a Cosmo and no, I don't have a cover. It's pretty well protected up under the bumper behind the foglight. I've checked the filter on several occasions after driving in heavy snow and it appears fine.

One more question, are you using the COSMO air filter that it came with or did you replace it with a K&N filter? I've heard of people doing this, not sure if I should jump on the band wagon. Is it necessary to do this or is the filter that came with it good enough? Thanks!!

I'm using the Cosmo filter. When I cleaned the filter yesterday the outside was filthy. The inside of the intake was crystal clean, not a hint of dirt or dust. I would say the Cosmo filter is doing a great job. I do use a K&N re-oiling kit though.

I'm still on the filter that came with my Injen CAI. It has last summer and to this point on it, about 8000km roughly I'd say. I have not looked reciently to see how dirty it might be but I have a long drive across canada to do in May of this year. I'll be taking out the intake because the car gets better fuel without it and for that long trip, you want good fuel lol.

I bought mine in Montreal for 150 Canadian. I was on the way towards that direction so I just did a local pick up which the company was willing to do.
