Radio issue?

Post by BigWill »

I wanted to know if I could leave my stock in and run a DVD under the seat going to my screens on my headrest? Instead of putting it in dash and having only one CD source. Does anyone understand what I mean?

I've done something like this but I need to know what type of DVD player you have. Is it an actual in-dash player or is it a stand-alone? I purchased a Boss DVD-4000 and mounted it under the passenger seat. It points to the front of the seat so I can change out the DVD without having to leave the drivers seat. No, I don't watch movies when I drive....LOL! I get my power for the DVD player using the aux power plug in the console between the front seats. Basically I removed the aux power plug from the console and tucked it underneath. I ran the power from the player directly to it. I don’t like wires showing. You can use an FM modulator with your stock head unit. Basically, your antenna lead plugs in to the modulator. The modulator then plugs into your stock head unit. When you apply power to the modulator it interrups the signal from the antenna. They usually give you two frequencies to choose from. You run your audio wires from your DVD unit into the modulator and it feeds through your stereo system. You loose quite a bit of sound quality. I tried to use a modulator with my stock head unit but I ended up having problems with signal fade. I could switch the modulator to one frequency and it would work fine in my local area, but when I traveled to see my son in Pennsylvania I would have to switch frequencies. This is because they have a station that broadcasted on the same frequency that I use in DC and vice-versa. Since I travel quite a bit between Washington DC and Pennsylvania this would not work. I finally decided to just replace the head unit with something that has an auxiliary input. I went with the Pioneer DEH-P740MP. I had to purchase an optional BUS input for the auxiliary but it wasn’t too expensive.Purchasing a new head unit was the best thing I could have done. Now I don’t have to worry about signal fade. The audio coming from the DVD is nice and clean. Also, I can play MP3s. I have created a few CDs and am able to squeeze about 180 songs on one disc. That’s about 12 hours of straight music!Hope this answers your question. If you need any other info please let me know.

I am about to buy a DVD to go under the seat, because all of the DVD's that I looked at don't have a tuner. So I wanted to keep my stock head unit, and just have the DVD under the seat and play DVD's, MP3's, and so on. But still have the head unit for the radio. Ya feel me? Holla back...one
