FINALLY made up my mind and bought a new Grand Cherokee

Post by soldierguy »

Well, I FINALLY made up my mind on what I wanted and bought it...I've got the keys, signed the papers, and I own it.It's a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 5.7 liter hemi, quadra-drive II full-time 4WD system with selectable low range, dark green with grey interior, moonroof, heated power leather seats, rear seat DVD entertainment system, 6-disc in dash Boston Acoustics sound system (sounds GREAT for a factory setup), traction control, stability control, trip computer, headlights that dim the brights in stages automatically depending on conditions, rain-sense wipers, auto-stick 5 speed automatic transmission, Multi Displacement System (MDS...deactivates 4 of the cylinders for better gas mileage) automatic climate control, power adjustable pedals...the list of features goes on and on.The hemi ROCKS!!! Totally smooth & powerful, a little quiet at cruise but sounds GREAT when under the gun. It moves the pig of a Grand Cherokee like it's not even there. The MDS is totally invisible in operation...I can't feel it kick in and out, and it doesn't change the sound of the exhaust...if I listen really carefully with the stereo off and a window down, I can just barely make out what sounds like a little ticking when it runs in 4-cylinder mode...the ticking makes sense because MDS operates by collapsing the lifters on 4-cylinders and not injecting fuel to the affected cylinders...but it's easy to miss the sound if I'm not actively listening for it.Why did I get the Grand Cherokee? Well about 10 days ago I was walking with some friends and we saw a bad accident...6 cars and a bus. The bus swerved across 7 lanes of traffic and ended up on top of a Hyundai Sonata. Right then I knew that I wanted to get something safer than the Kia, and I wanted to do it quickly...the accident spooked me about driving a car as small as the Kia. The Grand Cherokee was available, affordable ($5500 rebate and low-rate financing helped out there), and it's far safer than the Kia. I know that no car is totally safe, but the GC at least gives me a chance of survival...in an accitdent I'm sure that the Kia would have folded like a cheap hooker on the witness stand. I ended up extending here in Korea for 2 more years so it will get some good use here, and because it's an American vehicle, the Army will ship it back to the states for me free of charge.I like it...like I said, the hemi ROCKS!!! Pics are in my cardomain site if you want a look at it...it was on the lot when the pics were taken and it had rained the night before, so it is dirty.
