I have been thinking about removing the roof rack, but wonder if I will ever need it. Most stuf fits inside the car real well so far. Does anyone use the RR for anything besides bikes?
Base Two Tone Satellite, Auto, & Pwr Pkg....my current commuting car.
at different times, I've used mine for lumber, dog crates, a canoe, and mother-in-law. (j/k) Roof rack was a pontiac advantage in the Vibe/Matrix decision for me.
I wouldn't think of putting anything up there for fear that the roof would get scratched. I took mine off. But let me tell you...don't take it off until it gets warm (removed). When I got mine of I broke the slots that the yellow christmas tree clips slide into.
Nothing, I think those things should have been an option from the start. .02

I've got a ski rack on mine, and I've carried my snowboard and a couple sets of skis. I'm thinking of getting a bike rack in the summer.Personally, the roof rack is a major plus on the Vibe. Besides, if you load stuff on the roof properly, chances of your roof getting scratched are minimal.
Well, since I have a large audio system in the hatch, dead police officers won't fit there and they have to go SOMWHERE, don't they? J/k I haven't used them for anything since I've bought the Vibe.(P.s. Ryan Bell, GenVibe, and it's affiliated companies do not condone the killing of police officers and stuffing them into hatchbacks or tying them on roof racks. The opinions given in this post are actually those of your neighbor. Take it out on him. )
I didn't buy the car for the roof rack, but I did have the occasion to use it once. I bought 2 4'x8' sheets of trellis from the local hardware store last spring (they were for my cucumbers to climb on).Since the hatch is about a half-inch too small (diagonally) to fit in a 4'x8' sheet, they ended up making the trip home on the roof. Considering that I didn't even have the right type of equipment to tie them down (I ended up using the straps to secure the tire in the hatch), I'm impressed that I didn't loose them, especially over the railway tracks.

1. What? My Vibe has a roof-rack?2. Tons of Sailboat Fuel 3. A light coating of frost4. Water droplets from the carwash5. Splatters of bird doo-doo6. Not much of anything else
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
I haven't used the roof rack yet, because I installed hidden hitch (for about $100), and used it to carry my bikes and skis. LOT easier to get to than roof rack.

Canoe, ladder, wood, plastic trellis. Was going to put my bike up there but made a mount for the track system in the back. It fits great with just the rear drivers side seat down and the front wheel off.(the bike's wheel!!)
I had my GT for about 2 days and used it to carry a table-hockey table on the rack and a few days later carried a bed frame. I find it useful and I'm looking to get a bag carrier so I can take the Vibe instead of the wife's van on longer family trips.

That would be 2 - 40lb, 15 ft. sea kayaks on 2 pairs of Thule Hull-A-Ports attached to the original roof rack cross bars. Then my girlfriend and I drove 7 hours to go on a weekend kayaking trip in the Adirondacks... and get engaged.
Snowboard'sMountain Bike Half the reason I got the vibe was to support my active lifestyle. Seats get folded down all the time. Stuff goes on the roof when there are more than just me and my fiance in the car.

One thing. A monstrous patio furniture set (table and chairs) from K-mart. It was a "lovely" Martha Stewart collection for my girlfriends new house. Other than that, I have carried nothing on the roof. 32" TV's and an 85 gallon fish tank in the back. After seeing the vibe without the racks on top, that is my next mod...I am taking all of those suckers off and getting that carbon fiber fitment for the top.
