Vibe vs. Matrix hitch

Post by Rocketfella »

Does anyone know the trailer hitch made for Matrix will fit a Vibe?

The hitch should fit both. What brand is it? You can search for the Vibe and Matrix on etrailer.com and see if they both use the same part number.

In that case I'll call Toyota to order it because the GM dealers I called said trailer hitch don't exist for the Vibe.

Here is an update, I ordered the hitch from Ken Shaw Toyota two days ago, and this morning I went to pick it up on the way to work. When I got home after work I installed myself, the muffler was a little bit in the way but I still managed to get it done in 15 minutes. It's probably the easiest install I ever done, the parts fit perfectly. Now I've a Toyota rubber hitch plug in the back of my Vibe. P.s. Hidden Hitch and the hitch Toyoto sale is identical, they both have round tube and very well hidden under the bumper.

This morning I went to Hitch City in Mississauga and purchased a universal wiring harness for 26 bucks. I went home and installed on the Vibe and found the process to be much longer than anticipated. The wires in the back are in an awkard position and they're all very short, so I removed the spare tire and tray, then the left rear panel and the bottom gate panel. Now with wires exposed I tested the wires with the voltage meters to identify them. I used the wire bite tabs method to joint the wires instead of soldering them because I just want to get it over with. After finishing installing I tested the lights and found the left signal and driving light not working, hence I have to redo them. All and all it took me about 1.5 hours to install the wiring harness. I'm happy the hardware is now in place and functioning but I wish it was as easy as my Honda Accord which only took me 1 minute to install the wiring harness because the Accord comes with a factory install harness plug, therefore all you have to do is connect your harness to the plug and "WA LA!"

If you don't mind me asking Rocketfella, how much did the hitch cost you? (and where is Hitch City in Mississauga?)

The price varies from dealer to dealer so make sure you call around, the best price I got was from Ken Shaw Toyota for $144 + tx. Hitch City is on 5200 Dixie Road, just south of Hwy 401 West. Try YELLOWPAGES.CA to get their exact info.

Buying from etrailer.com, the Hidden Hitch is $100. I think it was $115 shipped or so. Trailer wiring is around $17. The draw-tite hitch is $80.

yeh I looked at those prices as well, but unfortunatly for us they are in US $, shipping to Canada and switch it to CDN $, it then doesn't look like a great deal anymore, I can't remeber what was goign to get it for with shipping but it was around the $150 quotes I was getting around here.

Just installed Hidden Hitch on my 06. http://www.etrailer.com/produc...6&h=e . Install was 10 min. Mostly to get tape holding bolts and stuff off of hitch. Only 4 bolts into threaded holes in body. Piece of cake. The price of the tubular hitch was $99.99 + 10 shipping last week. Must be a popular item since price went up since. I will use it to attatch bike rack. Chris
