Insurance in Michigan = YIKES!

Post by Flip-Side »

Just transferred my insurance from South Carolina to my future home, Michigan. I went from $550 every 6 months to $1200. My jaw hit the floor. South Carolina has a horrible drunk driving problem, terrible drivers, and some of the worst designed road systems. My provider contributed this rise to Michigans "No Fault" insurance policies. I found USAA the cheapest at $950, but it still sucks. I am told prices vary, sometimes largely, on the state you live in. And I'm told Michigan is far from the worst.

Calling USAA today to switch over. I paid my last 6 months of insurance off in only 4 months, so Gieco owns me some cash. It was a learning experience. Do not tell the insurance company that you are moving so you can keep cheaper insurance. My old coverage would have covered me nationwide and I'm sure I might have run into problems with living elsewhere, but doubling my insurance tempts me to do it. I am not doing it though, so please...no lecturing.

That's rough!! Insurance for my Vibe and motorcycle is around $850/year.

Since I just called for the quote from work not long ago - I still have the paper sitting here. We pay $488/6 mo for the Vibe in Minneapolis. It was only $308 for the 98 Malibu we traded. That's through MetLife, but I get a pretty good corporate discount through work. When I called around before I went with them, they were literally several hundred dollars cheaper than anyone else for two cars. Not sure how much of that is due to my discount, but getting a quote never hurt anyone.Nice thing about my setup is that they do payroll deduction, so an equal amount comes out of each check. I never even have to think about paying my insurance bill every 6 months, and it's less painful to have it come out of every check (for those of us that are saving impaired). I wouldn't trust credit card companies or anything to do that, but it's worked well for my car loans and insurance...

what do you mean, No Fault Insurance was suppose to save us big money on are insurance rates. LMAOOf course are Crooked Canadian CrackHead for a Governor Jenny added a fee to all insurance policys last year which I believe was $125 per vehicle. That on top of the outrageous plate fee's we pay each year.On top of that I read are rates are going up again this year!

It's not so much the state you live in as the area. With most insurance companies it's the zip code. If you live in or near Detroit expect the worst. We moved from Atlanta, GA to Kalkaska, MI (middle of the freakin' woods) and our insurance rates went down to an amazing level. Moved from there to Chicago, and again we're in sticker shock.

Just depends where you get insurance from.I went to see my State Farm Insurance today to get quote for 2003 Vibe AWD with full coverage. $702.35 for every six months that was not too bad for me. $117.06 per month is pretty good deal for me. However, I will get discount that going to have two cars. I have to drop full coverage on my truck after pay off this June. So I'm looking at about around $150 per month for 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 and 03 Vibe after I get Vibe in Aug/Sept.LaterJosh
