noob question

Post by rlfreese »

I am a newb to the vibe, I just traded my 14 second zx2 for a base vibe and am wondering, what is the difference that gives the gt more power. I know it is the same engine. with the zx2 you have the standard and the s/r. the s/r has 4 wheel disk, iceman intake, upgraded cpu and short shifter and eibach springs./

To vastly oversimplify, 'Lift' is when the Yamaha-built Toyota 2zz engine (Matrix XRS, Vibe GT) kicks in with another ~50 hp because it switches to a different camshaft profile, starting at about 6000 RPM, and lasting up to about 8200 RPM. 2zz engines are VVTL-i, where the 1zz engines are VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing but without the L- for Lift)It's why GT's are more expensive (and more exciting) than base or AWD models.Check out this thread.....http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=13290Welcome to Genvibe!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the Encyclopedia of Vibe! Ponyota covered the engine differences pretty well. If you're looking for a bit more performance, lots of 'base' owners have upgraded performance somewhat (potential of 5 to 15 additional hp) with Cold Air Induction and a low restriction cat-back exhaust. As you've probably noticed, we LOVE pics here, so please feel free to post away when you get the chance!

My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.

thanks for the welcome, it is nice to see I have joined another comunity without stupid kids shouting off that their car is better than everyone elses. The zx2 comunity was great as well, we had national meets and i was in the midatlantic chapter of thier nationwide club. I miss the old car but the new one will be just fine.
