CD-changer Installation (Not in Dash)

Post by Space_Cowboy »

Hey everyone. I just got (as a gift) a 10 disc DVD changer. Unfortunately, the screen takes up the bulk of the room so the CD-Changer is not in the dash, so i need to install a separate changer somewhere in the vehicle, any ideas? Has anyone installed a separate changer in their car? Where'd you put it?Also, do I need to know anything special about installing the new stereo? It looks like just your typical 2-din size radio, but then again I don't know much....Thanks!

quote:put the cd changer under the drivers seat if possible, only place I think it would fit.I doubt it will work. The 120 V AC converter is located under the driver seat. Choose the passager seat. With the moon and tune package, the CD changer is located here.

uhm...i thought the moon and tunes package came with an IN-DASH (meaning the changer is in the radio in the dashboard) cd changer and that the box under the passenger seat was the amp for the system, maybe i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure i can't get rid of that box...maybe i should put it in the storage compartmetns in the back? has anyone done this?

The CD player for the NAV system (not the Moon and Tunes package) is under the passenger seat. The MnT pacakge has the 6-disc in the dash. You don't want to move the inverter under the driver seat. Stick with under the passenger seat for your CD player.

Additional clarification. The 6-disk changer is an option. You can get the M&T package with or without the 6-disk in-dash changer.

Yes, the MnT can have a single in-dash CD or the 6-disc in-dash CD. Also to note, the amp for the MnT package is under the passenger seat. This is why the Nav system (standard with the 6-disc under the passenger seat) can't come with the amp.Base = single disc in-dash CD, no amp (nothing under passenger seat)Step 1 = 6-disc in-dash CD, no amp (nothing under passenger seat)Setp 2 = single disc CD in-dash Moon and Tunes package (amp under passenger seat)Step 3 = 6-disc in-dash CD Moon and Tunes package (amp under passenger seat)Step 4 = Navigation system, no amp (6-disc changer under passenger seat)

okay, so i have the moon and tunes package with the amp under the seat, like i said...so that means that under both passenger and driver seats are out...and the glove box is too small, and so is the center console storage area (plus i don't want to block that power source in there)...now that we have that cleared up, any ideas for where else to go? I checked the rear side storage compartments and those were too small too...i guess i could technically just have them bolt it to the side of the cargo area, but i really don't want to do that....i guess here's an idea, how important is the amp? I guess i could take it out, and swap it for a cd-changer, but i like the sound that an amp should bring to a system, but is this one really that great? would i be missing a lot if i took it out?

The 120 V AC converter is not very big. It could be possible to move it a little or just put the CD changer under it (all depend of the heigh of you CD changer).

If you want to keep the stock amp under the passager seat, you'll have to use the RCA pre-amp output from your new head unit. If you want to use the amp from your new head unit, you'll have to pypass completly the amp. If you go that way, you will be able to remove completly the amp and take the space for your DVD changer.

cool...another quick question, seeing as i have no idea how to do this myself and i don't have any friends that i think know what they're doing either, i need to take this to some sort of car audio installation store to do....what would i need to provide for them? does the manual have a wiring diagram or something that they need or should any place that's any good already know how to do it?

If the place you will come make a clean job, they shold not need anything but your head unit and the DVD changer. They will privide all the stuff they need to complete the install. Also, ask to have a wiring harness (to keep the stock head unit jack and put back the stock radio easely if necessary). I can estimate the time to complete this should be around 3 hoursThe only advise I can give you is to go to a plce where they have a good reputation and where you can trust them.I'd like to help to do it but unfortunally, your a little bit to far away from me.Keed us updated

I would take it in first. The dealer could always claim that the rattles in the dash were caused by you taking it apart to put the new stereo in and not take care of it for you.

quote:does anyone know if this installation will void any sort of warranty? Your new installation won't be covered by the GM warranty. All other part will stay under warranty.quote:I nee dto tak emy car in for som erattles in the dash, would this be a problem? should i wait until after i take my car to dealership to install this stereo?I second PBFlash. Take it to the dealer first to fix rattle, then change the audio system.
