Clayed + waxed today (used NXT)

Post by ScottS »

I clayed and waxed my car today. I would have liked to have used a polish too, but honestly after putting the Meguiar's NXT wax on I don't think I'll bother.

What does clayed mean? Looks awesome! How hard was it to install those deflector covers? Mine have been sitting in the car for weeks b/c I'm afraid I will mess them up!

You can buy clay at most auto parts places (Bumper to Bumper, Auto Zone, Checker, etc) - I think even WalMart might carry it.It basically looks like a lump of playdo (sp?) - you spray a supplied lubrication, the rub the clay on your car's finish. It basically pulls all of the impurities - sap, bugs, etc - as well as existing wax from the surface. It's a snap to use. Once done, you finish is basically bare, so you want to follow it up right away with a minimum of a coat of wax. It actually makes the waxing process go faster, because the surface is smoother to put on and take off the wax.If you think your surface is fine, try out this little trick I read a while back - get a standard sandwich baggie. Put your hand in it, and rub it lightly across your hood. Now go get yourself some clay, and spend 10 seconds doing a small chunk of your car. Now repeat the baggie trick. If you aren't all fired up to finish claying your car after that, nothing will convice you.

Scott_h summed it up pretty good, here's a link to the product:http://www.meguiars.com/store_...e=megIt's great for taking off fallout and overspray. The headlight masks weren't all that hard to do. My advice is to use a blow dryer to shrink them on instead of a heat gun, a heat gun might shrink them too fast. I heated them and used a credit card to smooth them on.

I think I'll go get some clay later on. I'm opening my detailing buisness April 1st out of my garage so I will make a price list and if the customer wants clay they can pay more So far have a VIbe, Crossfire, and '05 Vette lined up.If the clay picks up the impurities, where does it all go? I know that you re-roll the bar but how do you get all the dirt and stuff OUT of the clay bar itself?

You just fold the clay over itself every so often to get a clean part. When it gets too dirty you throw it away. I usually only do 2 or 3 cars with it before I chuck it.

Well thanks for clearing that up for me. I decided to detail mine today but I just washed it really good and decided to wait on the wax. My friend invited me to learn how to drive his 5speed v6 wrangler. He took off hte top and doors so I couldn't resist.
