hey guys

Post by vibedrvr04 »

Hey all! New guy here to GenVibe.com. Great site from what I've seen so far. Currently I've got a Neptune Blue 2004 Base Vibe, Moons and Tunes, monotone paint. I've got billet grill inserts coming in the mail so that should look cool when they arrive. Lemme know if you guys have any suggestions for enhancement without going "RICE" on it. BTW...anyone know if you can get a S/C from the dealer? Also, what kind of performance/fuel mileage will occur with it's addition. Thanks all.Tom

Welcome to GenVibe! Love the Color! Right now you can only get a S/C from a dealer if your car is drive by cable not drive by wire. You can find this out by looking at your thottle body. If there is a cable coming over to the top of it, well then it is drive by cable if not then drive by wire. Obviously with the addition of a S/C your mileage is going to drop because you will be creating more power which uses more fuel which decreases your mileage. As with most cars, it's all in how you drive. Floor it all the time your mileage will suck! Take it easy and your mileage will be great! The first three mods I would do are Cold-Air Intake(CAI), Cat-Back Exhaust and lowering springs. Congrats on the purchase!

I was talking with a friend of mine...they told me that a CAI isn't going to make that much of a difference. As for the exhaust, that might not be a bad idea. I was thinking about the lowering springs, however being in NJ we have a crapload of potholes and I don't wanna get it too low. I do want to see if I can get her a little lower to the ground though. Thanks for the advice!

Hi Tom, welcome to genvibe!there are a pile of threads about gas mileage, I think buried in one of them is some info about the efffect of the SC, but I can't rememebr what the effect was. Probably dropped it due to having the extra power resulted in using the extra power, gas mileage dropped due to heavy right foot SC takes higher octane than non-SC base though.

Welcome, I'm not 100% sure about the gains with the SC. A search of the site should bring up a good deal of info.

I also have a CAI, and while don't notice HUGE gains, it definitely helps give me a little extra kick! As for a supercharger, if I recall correctly, it is $2500 installed.Drop me an IM if you want to meet up sometime, you can see what I've done and we can talk Vibe...anyone for a mini Monmouth/Mercer/Middlesex County meet?

Be careful at the dealer. I went to inquire about a supercharger and everyone in the showroom told me they don't make superchargers for the Vibe!!! So I went to the parts department and they quoted $2995!!!!!!!!!!! NOT installed BTW. I would want to install it myself anyways with the exception of the chip.

afaik, the cai actually provides a slightly higher gain than any of the catbacks available.
