Aftermarket Seats

So I have been looking all over for seats that will provide a little more comfort and back and side support. There are tons of recaro clones all over Ebay ranging from $100 a pair to $500. Problem is you buy sight unseen so you don't know if they're junk or not. Is JDM a good brand?Pep Boys even sells the boy racer look alikes. Although Pepboys look kind of cheaply made. I would like to match the back seats in the same materal also. Has anybody done this conversion? The making of seat brackets? I would like to retain the stock seatbelts.

JDM isn't a brand per se. It stands for Japanese Domestic Market, which is an industry buzzword right now. Most Japanese-brand cars in the American market are based on a Japanese Market car, and the original ones usually have some equipment (headlights, seats, bumpers) that are changed when the car is brought to the US market. People who want to make their car look like the original model buy JDM parts to swap onto their US market cars. It's gotten out of hand lately, with manufacturers using "JDM" for cars that aren't even offered for sale in Japan. (EX: I've seen JDM tailights advertised for Chevy 1500 trucks.)Most of those cheap seats are just that, cheap. Stick with a name brand (Sparco, Recaro, etc.) if you want quality. There's a NOPI store in Smyrna where you could probably check some out. Some seats are really unforgiving in the kidney area since they are made for racing. Making the back seat match will be a lot harder. You'll most likely have to find some one who does automobile restoration or custom interiors.Unless you are willing to spend some serious $$$ on your interior, you might want to look into some custom, fitted seat covers like Wet Okole.Hope this helped,Rob
