I don't know about this. This is probably the reason that there are so many ugly cars being produced today. That Chevy truck that won 4 awards doesn't look so hot to me, although you can't see all that much of it in the picture. And the Honda Element winning 3 awards? Hell, if that isn't the next ugliest car built today (Aztek wins the ugly award IMO). At least the Aztek could be made acceptable-looking if they would redesign the front end. The Element, eesh, that one is just all around unforgivably fugly.

I thought the Aztek was very ugly when I saw it at first and it still is a bit ugly to me... though it has grown on me a little. So, I have to disagree with you about the front end of the Aztek. I think the front end is very fierce. It's the rear end they need to redesign!

I have to agree. At first it was really ugly but since it got the monotone paint it's not so bad (especially in black):Here's a good comparison between the 2:The good:the bad and ugly:The tail still needs work but the whole car has grown on me.
Being an Aztek co-owner (wife's car), the design of the car grew on me as well. I told my wife that we would not own one with that ugly gray plastic on the side. When they changed it for the 2002 model year, we bought one. I also like the front end of the Aztek, but the rear does need some work. It is very difficult to see out of the rear view mirror with that bend in the rear window and it is even more difficult to see with the spoiler in the way. Other than that, it is a great vehicle with a lot of room. It is also pretty versatile as well.

By the vast majority of accounts, the Azetc's styling is love it or hate it. I also at first totally hated it and was very afraid that it represented the way Pontac was going to begin to style their vehicles. The Aztec has grown on me also and dropping that bulky ugly plastic cladding has really improved the look. I think that the car is really nice except for the look of the body. The interior looks great, drivetrain seems athletic and pretty solid, and it is a pretty versitile car also. The dealer I bought my Vibe from had several very well equipped Aztec's on the lot that were comparbile in price to my Vibe. I thought about it, but I just can't bring myself to buy a car that looks like that. Besides, my girlfriend, my sister, and several of my cousins would never let me live down trading a Mustang for an Aztec. I have loved the look of the Vibe since I saw the first commercials for it, and the 0% financing made it affordable for me. When I saw it, drove it, and saw the interior space and versitlity along with the performance of the GT, I was sold. The drop in insurance cost was also a leading influence for purchasing a Vibe. Bottom line is that the Aztec is a great vehicle, but I won't drive one until they redesign the exterior. Just my little ol' opinion.

My bad. I stand corrected. But watch out, if I am nominated as Site Sniper, I will seek to asassinate all political correctness garbage in addition to Site Peacekeepers! BTW--you are correcting spelling not a political stand or policy, so you're ok here this time. I won't even have to slap you around, either.

The aztek looks like it started out as a nice styling design exercise. But some BigWig saw it, and said "how long is it?". They said "20 ft.", and the bigwig said "This SUV HAS to be MID SIZED! Shrink it by 3' or it'll never make production! The designers REALLY were proud of their front end, and didn't want to reduce passenger space, so they simply took a sawz-all and chopped off the rear. They were gonna rework the tail, but the Big Wig (with no easthetic taste whatsoever, saw it and said "GREAT! We'll make it!". And that's how the Aztek came to be. Could be!KSNeptune
