Front License Plate Bracket Torn off

Post by Vibe Rater »

Can anyone tell me what exactly holds on the front license plate bracket to the front bumper? The bracket is screwed to the bumper and then the license plate is bolted to the bracket. I recently had mine ripped off the bumper by a crazy pizza delivery guy in a snowstorm. His van was going way to fast for the conditions and as I edged out of an alley very slowly because it is a totally blind corner, he clipped the front of my Vibe and tore off the bracket. Could've been a lot worse. Where the bracket was bolted to the bumper, on one side there is a small hole where the screw used to be. On the other side, the screw was still in the bumper. Thanks for any tips.

You answered your own question. It's held on with 2 bolts threaded into the holes in the bumper. A new bracket is around $22.00. By the way, how many horseshoes do you have in your shorts? You are way too lucky.

Yeah, but is there a nut or metal bracket behind the bumper to thread into, or does it just thread in the plastic? All I can see through the enlarged hole in the plastic is styrofoam. Anyone had their front facia off and seen what is behind it? Thanks.

There is no nut or bracket as far as I can tell. It is just threaded plastic. If the hole is too big just use a larger self-tapping screw. It does not support much weight so strength is not an issue.

I might still have my old bracket. I took it off when I got the car because in NS you don't need a front plate. If you're willing to pay the postage and I can find it you're welcome to it.

Yeah, there's two little dips in the bumper and the dealership just screws the bracket directly into it.

Nice of you to offer Simon. I'll start calling around here to get prices, and if it's cheaper to pay the postage on yours. I'll take you up on that offer. Love this place.
