Just ordered the Thermal R&D exhaust.

Post by DopeVibeGT »

I'll post pics and sounds when I get it installed. I just hope it doesnt sound like the matrix I heard the other day. I thought someone was cutting down a tree.

Ok, got the exhaust today. Will try to get it installed on sat. and will have more pics. Heres a picture of it in the box, to show they didnt play around when securing the parts in place. They had them sandwhiched between 'pillows' of foam insulation. LoL I think they sent the wrong instructions.

Ok, got the exhaust on. It's not very hard to do. The toughest part is getting the factory one off. They are held on by rubber mounts, like the picture below. You need to pull down on them and pull the little flange through. The new exhaust (Pictured) doesnt have these and goes on VERY easy. The exhaust comes in two piece. The muffler itself with the exhaust tip and then a piece that goes from the muffler pipe over the rear axle. You can see that in the picture above.Heres the finished product below. The sound....it's what I wanted. Very deep and only slightly louder than the factory. I will upload a sound file either later tonight or tomorrow. If you guys want a more detailed description, let me know.

Well done (DopeVibeGT). If you can do a drive by for your sound file, that would be great.

Thanks a bunch for posting those two sound files. If you could do an interior one where you run it through a few gears hitting lift, I'd love to hear what it sounds like from the inside. From the outside, it definitely doesn't sound stock, but it's a nice, deep (well for a 4 cylinder) sound that doesn't sound buzzy at all. I like it!!

Mike, you are da man!! Thanks for posting the interior sound clip!! I got my AEM intake on last night and I'm loving it (see related post), I'm thinking I might have to go exhaust down the road based on your sound clips, it sounds nice. Does the exhaust 'load' up when you give it throttle at lower rpms, meaning is there any resonance at any load/rpm?

That sounds great. Hopefully by the summer I'll be able to buy a CAI and exhaust.

it really doesn't sound too much different than my flowmaster, honestly. i'll try to get a clip of it this week. the **** roars at lift with the intake! and i only paid 90 bucks with install! the new aem intake should be on soon. maybe a lightened fly wheel or new rims next...or a/f controller...who knows.

Major difference in flows and this exhaust is the flow is just the muffler. This is a stainless steel, polished cat-back exhaust. No cutting of the old pipes. Simply take two bolts out, wrestle it from the hangers and slap the new one on.
