Oil Analysis

Post by bckersey »

I have AMSoil in my Vibe right now and personally don't know if I am comfortable letting it go more that 6000 miles. But I have had people tell me that its fine to go longer than 6000 miles if I have an oil analysis done to check the oil. Does anyone know how you go about this? My thought was that it sounded expensive. If it costs $20, you might as well just change the oil. So I guess I am asking where you get one of these done and how much they cost.

Check out http://www.bobistheoilguy.com. They recomend a place called Blackstone labs. Here's a link for a test kit: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free_test_kit.htmlI found a Used oil Analysis on the bobistheoilguy forums from a guy with a 2zz engine (in a celica) that "races often" on a track. He used a synthetic that he chaged out a 3,000, but the lab's advice on the analysis was to leave it in and recheck at 6,000! And remember he's racing the car.I have mobil1 EP (the new stuff) in my gt right now and I plan to keep it in until 7,500 miles. Mobil says that it should be good up until 15,000 miles but since I might void my warranty by leaving the oil in for longer than 7,500 I think I'll stick to that. I plan to send away a sample at 7,500, which I'm sure will come back fine. My plan after the warranty is to run mobil1 EP until 10,000 but change the filer at 6,000-7,000 ish.Hope that helped.
