Goodyear Confortred

Post by Cajun »

It was time to replace my Vibe's original tires (38000 miles). I originally looked at Goodyear Tripletreds but @ $565 they were a bit expensive. I installed the Goodyear Confortred and am extremely happy with them. They offer good handling and very long milage (80000 mile warranty). What is really good is that they are much much quiter and the ride improvement is terrific.

WOW, 38,000 miles on the original tires! Were they Conti's or Goodyears? If they were Conti's THAT might be a record! I'm still on my Conti's at ~32,000, but I've only owned it for the last 10,000 miles. I wondered if anyone had installed the Goodyear Comfortreds. It's good to hear a 'real world' report about the noise and handling.I like the reasonably aggressive handling characteristics of the Conti's, and was worried that the Comfortreds would make my Vibe handle like a 64 Chevy Biscayne wagon!

The originals were Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. They could have been streatched a bit further but I seem to get a lot of flats when the tires get thin.In my experience-don't let anyone aligh your wheels unless you are having a problem. Factory alignment is done with a fixed jig. I don't trust the skill of the tire shop guys. This will make for longer tire life if you rotate them.

When I was trying to track down a set of winter tires, I did see the Tripletreads. Those look pretty nice! Good thing that I didn't investigate too far, that price is way too much! I know it probably sounds weird to many around, but I'd really like to have a set of tires that will give me the smoothest ride possible, and I'm more than willing to sacrifice handling ability and maybe even some tread life to get that. IMHO, with the soft Blizzaks I have on my car now, the ride has never been better. Nice and smooth, although a bit bouncy at times. I don't too care too much for being jolted every time I'm on a rough road, and I don't push my car hard at all in the twisties to warrant any super sticky, high performance type of tire. The handling is a bit sloppy with the Blizzaks, but is good enough for me. That would improve with an all-season, more than likely. As long as the ride doesn't become too harsh, I'll like it. ) These tires just about sound like what I'm looking for. The tread life on those is impressive - although it sounds I'm like you, I replace the tires way before their time has come. I too have noticed increases in flats from nails, screws, whatever as they startedo get worn out in the past, so I just would bite the bullet and get a new set. The place I deal with gives you trade-in allowances on your old tires - only $10 or so, but still... I wish I could get some new tires once it's time to put my 16" alloys back on in a month or two, but those tires only have 16,000 or so on them. A bit too early to dump 'em, I'm afraid. But I'll keep these in mind for later down the road.Keep us posted on how they're holding up!
