roof trim strip

Post by joatmon »

the other day while driving I noticed something sticking off the side of my roof, turned out to be one of the black trim strips, the inch wide plastic pieces that fit in the groove and run from the windshield back to the roof rack. Apparently it had become detached at the front, and was flopping around in the wind. It doesn't want to stay attached anymore. It seems like the only way to get it to stay now would be to glue it down, and I'd rather not do that, I'm inclined to just leave it off.So, is this thing just cosmetic? I don't see where it protects anything. Other than some debatable appearance benefit, is there any reason why I should make sure it is in place?

I would think it is there to keep moisture out. I would try to put it back.

I was looking at mine the other day: similar problem. That trim leading forward from the roof rack...Mine hasn't come off, but it is not all fastened down. It's sort of bubbled up in the middle. So I went over all the trim on the car and also found some front window trim that is not seated right. If I can't fix these does anyone know if trim is a warranty item?

I tinkered with mine while applying RK sports carbon fiber roof rack cover. The front should sorta snap in place and the rest of it should be held by the roof rack.

I think I have it snapped back into place ok for now. Not sure why, but it took a couple of tries. I'd think it was in ok, and then I'd be driving along and see it flapping off to the side of the roof. I don't think it provides any particular important seal, but it might keep some stuff from getting under the roof rack side rails.
