Goodyear Eagle RS-A (Sorry - Long read)

Post by emstuckless »

Hello Everyone,I have a problem with my 2003 Vibe. The Eagle RS-A tires are shot (that seems to be a fairly common problem around here). Goodyear has agreed to help me out, however my dealership says that the tires were not factory equipment on my vechical and as such Goodyear pulled the plug on my replacements (this dealership has a history of being very uncooperative). I know that these were the tires that came with the car, however I have no way to prove it. The issue has become more complicated by the fact that the Eagle RS-A was only used as a replacement for the continentals in 2003 and therefore have no TPC # to prove they are "original GM equipment" (See my previous post about TPC #). Does anyone know if there is any way for me to obtain proof for Goodyear without having to go through my local dealership. GM Canada has said that it is very likely that my vechical did come with the Goodyears (based on manufacturing dates, etc.), but Crossroads Pontiac (The local dealership) has already told Goodyear that all vibes they sold in 2003 had the continential tire, and they refuse to conceed that they may have been wrong. Any help I can get on this would be greatly appreciated, as it means the difference in me paying 25% for replacement tires (If can obtain proof) or 100% (if I cant).

How many miles are on your tires, and is there anything other than treadwear that classifies them as "shot?" How did you get Goodyear to agree to an adjustment? I've got just over 40,000 miles on my OEM Goodyears, but I can't see me ever going back there for replacements unless I got a really good deal. I think traction on the Goodyears is horrible, and I don't even have a GT!!

What brand is your spare? I'm not sure if it will always be the same as the regular tires, but that may help in your argument.

This is the 2nd thread about this. I think we found that the car did come with Goodyears. GM didn't put TPC tires on all the '03, especially NOT the 'Captive' Imports. I'm hoping for a reasonable solution to this situation, but if not, I can suggest MANY other tires that aren't made by Goodyear, Bridgestone G009's being the top choice IMHO. If they are only offering 25% and making you buy more Goodyear product, I'm not sure you WOULD be ahead in the end.

Did you call 1-800-GMDrive? With your VIN number, they should be able to look up what options your vehicle has and hence which tire your vehicle was shipped with. There should also be a tire label in your vehicle. I can't remember if it specifies what tire is on the vehicle though. I'll have to look it up tomorrow and also if there was any warranty information regarding the tires that came with the manuals for the car.

If I remember correctly, most 2003 VIBES with 16" Wheelcovers came with Goodyears. The 16" rims were Conti's. If your car has wheelcovers, then you should have Goodyears.

The fact that the dealership telling you that the Eagles aren't OE on your Vibe is total ****; that's lame. First of all, I remember reading some car review, or a thread about it, that referred to the Vibe's Eagle RS-A tires and them being called "screaming eagles" because they protest every turn they make.Another interesting tid-bit. If you go to the Pontiac website, go to the Vibe section, and click on "Photo Gallery" there is a picture of the side skirt on the sport package with 16" wheels that clearly SHOWS the CLOSEUP of tires and they are OBVIOUSLY Eagle RS-A's. That's obscene. Observe the picture:Anyway, best of luck, tell whatever pontiac dealership you're dealing with to (removed) off, and go find another one. I've had trouble w/ the local one here as well and thus probably won't buy another Pontiac, at least not from them.
