Just bought an 05 Vibe but not happy with the speakers. Would like to replace with after market. Just looking for decent sound at a decent price. What seems to be the popular speaker with some nice bass? Also what size? I checked out crutchfield and it states I have 5 1/4 in front and back. I was looking foward to 6x9s. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Crutchfield is also a little stupid.Do you have the M&T system? Do you have the factory subwoofer in the cargo space?The door speakers from the factory are 6.5" in the front, and 5.25" in the rear, however, it's very easy to put 6.5" in all the doors. You'd be very hard pressed to fit 6x9's in the front doors, and would have to do a lot of work to get them to fit in the rear. Unless you want to add an amplifier, and a couple of 6x9 boxes in the cargo area, i'd stick to 6.5" all around.Next, do you want coaxials, or components? Components are the ones that have two seperate speakers, a tweeter and a woofer. Coaxials have the tweeter built into the woofer. Components are more expensive.Some brands i'd reccomend:Polk AudioInfinityJL AudioMBQuartFor the front speakers you'll need what's called a 'spacer', as you need an extra inch of clearance in order for the speaker to not hit the window. Crutchfield sells them, they're basically 1" 6.5" speaker spacers. You don't need these for the rear, however.

No I don't have the MT system just the base w/cd. Wouldn't 3way be better then coaxial? I've read where some guys have gutted the stock to use the stock spacer good or bad idea?
I've seen people do that on this forum. I have the Pioneer 4-way 6.5's all the way around. I think if you ask anyone on this forum that has heard my system, they will most prolly say that it sounds pretty good. Inder

Unless you're an audiophile, having a three-way speaker isn't going to help. 4way speakers are simply more little speaker elements, and on paper, they help, in reality? No.Front speakers don't neccesarily need to be thin, but you need those spacers. Unless you want to cut into the inner door panel and take out the factory grilles. Thereby mounting the new speakers in the plastic part of the door.Like I said, you can do anything you want, but you need to weigh the cost of heavily modifying your car vs. the actual benefit. Three and four way speakers don't really offer much benefit over a two-way. Hence why you don't see many high end speakers in more than a two-way configuration. Nothing against Pioneers, but unless you have the Premier series, they aren't much to carry on about.

Well..in my car, I basically gutted the front speakers and used them as the spacer. I cut out the factory speaker element and the stuff that held the magnet in place, and used the plastic to mount my new speakers in.It means that I destroyed the front speakers, but it also means I didn't need to buy a spacer. The spacer is about the same height, though.I have the Polk MOMO series in front, the MM6's, and they have a mounting depth of 2 13/16", and they fit fine..so..you can pretty much go from that.
