Site Funding?

Post by tnpartsguy »

I've been here about 2 months now, and I have no idea who owns the site, so if I accidently step on anyones toes,.......well...sorry, but I am curious. With the pop-up ads over at MO.com, and the problems that has caused, it got me curious as to how this site is funded, and if we need to help, via donations, or whatever. Over at G20.net, we used to have donations, but finally had to go to a dues system, to make sure to keep the site alive. This site is smaller, but it still has to be hosted, ect, and I sure enjoy it. Anything I can do to help, I'll like to be able to do.

Ads.Notice them on the top of every page next to the genvibe header? If you don't, you may have ad blocking software...

Yeah, I see those ads, even clicked one or 2 of them......didn't know if that was enough to fund the site or not......

I think the problem at that other site wasn't about pop ups, it was about in line ads. but anyway, I think this site is owned (not pwn3d ) by BVerticals, there is a link in the gray bar at the very bottom of every page on genvibe.here is an interesting press release (from before genvibe was born)

Here's the best part of that release:Quote »PickupTruck.com, VWVortex.com and AudiWorld.com, four top automotive enthusiast Web sites, have joined forces to form BVerticals, the Internet's first "e-co/op."

GenVibe.Com and ScionZone.Com (another sister site) were basically spun off from their primary (mother) sites of PickupTruck.Com and AudiWorld.Com, which both by far are extremely high traffic sites when compared to GVC.Their ad revenue basically pays for all the sites as a whole, but the ads on GVC and ScionZone do help somewhat. This is just my observation when speaking with the admins of all the sites over the past few years.I don't see any need for them to start to ask for member donations now or in the future.Edit: also, vwvortex.com hasn't been a part of the BVerticals network for a couple years now. They are a part of the vortexmediagroup.com.

You're showing concern for the site - why would that be a bad thing?

Actually, this same question was on my mind in the last couple of days. I belong to another site that charges a $2 admission fee to cover hosting, and a general begging for cash whenever the reserves get low. There's absolutely no ads on the site (which is rare in this day & age).

I would MUCH rather have a few non-intrusive ads then have people beg for cash all the time. That would make me uncomfortable, and would get real old real fast.
