I had some symptoms last night and woke up this morning feeling like a bag of crap. To prevent getting the flu I would get a flu shot each fall, before flu season starts. This time I decided not to because of the shortage. I went to the doctor and he put me on TAMIFLU (TAM-ih-flew). TAMIFLU is a medicine to treat flu (infection caused by influenza virus). It belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications attack the influenza virus and prevent it from spreading inside your body. TAMIFLU treats flu at its source by attacking the virus that causes the flu, rather than simply masking symptoms.Has anyone taken this med before and did it work? Because the flu is a viral infection, it cannot be treated with antibiotics.I go back tomorrow for blood work to make sure my other med. (Chrestor) is keeping my cholestoral levels down. It's hell getting old.

I haven't had any experience with that particular medication or taking things for the flu other than general symptom relievers, but I have taken anti-viral drugs for shingles, and found that while it did work, it took a horsepill to do it, and the process was very slow. I hope for your sake that this one is better or at least works faster.
My doc thankfully told me I couldn't get a flu shot, but was elgible for FluMist, the nasal equivalent. *knock on wood* haven't felt the slightest hint of flu this season!
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I have asthma and broncitis, and I'm supposed to get flu shots, but I don't, so IF I do get the flu, my alergist hits me with TamiFlu. Stuff works like a charm, cuts my sick time down to 24 hours or less.

Thanks all. I been on TAMIFLU for 24 hours now and it seems the influenza virus has not advance in my system. The technology of medicine now days is amazing. It also states: if someone in your house has the flu that you can take TAMIFLU to prevent the flu.

Like an idiot, I roll the dice. I am a big girl (no offense) when it comes to needles. I get the flu every 3 or 4 years. I do get bronchitis though, always in the fall. This year I was lucky and didn't get it. Anyway, hope you feel better old man!
