Warranty Over

Post by joatmon »

Bought my Vibe 12/30/2002. Today I hit the 36,000 mile mark, which means my Vibe is now beyond the warranty period. The 3 year/36000 mile warranty was a strike against the vibe when I was looking to buy, it seems short. The Matrix warranty is longer. I did not go for an extended warranty ("gee, if I need an extended warranty, maybe I should be looking at a more reliable car!" shuts up the extended warranty salesman at the dealership) Hope I don't need it, time will tell.Who else has run their vibe past the warranty?

I'm long over the standard 3 year, 60000 km warranty.I'm also quickly running out of the extended, 100000 km warranty (which GM comp'ed after my 1st cat converter fiasco).

40,000 miles here...I did opt for the 100,000 mi warranty though, but w/ a $100 deductable. So should the engine, tranny, suspension, or water pump and alternator and such have a hicup then its only a bill out of my pocket. I like the peace of mind.

I'm getting real close joatmon, which is why I brought it to the dealer today to get 3 things fixed under warranty (including the cladding). FYI to '03 owners: despite the TSB saying the cladding problem is "discoloration", I'd call it sand blasting. You can definitely feel a rough area up the seam where the door cladding meets the rear wheel well cladding. It looks and feels like someone took sand paper and rubbed it along this area. joatmon: I think you did well not to buy an extended warranty. I normally do when I buy a car now, but resisted since our cars are Corollas. I think our money will be better served in the rising stock market rather than in someone else's pocket.

I'm no where near the warranty on mine yet... we just crossed the 20000km mark on the weekend and I've had the Vibe since August 2002... guess you can tell I don't drive all that often.

Joatmon, I hope for your sake you do OK without the extended as well. I'm no where near mine yet. I bought my Vibe in May of 2002 and am not quite to 16,000 miles yet. I have the 60,000 mile extended as anyway, thrown in by the dealership to hide from the bank, the amount I rolled over from my Saturn.

heh and trust me, extended warranty isn't there because your buying a crappy car. Its there incase your wonderful car experiences an unforseen break down that every vehicle will experience. Its there for that "just in case" situation. Trust me I have seen people with great cars have something unfortunate go wrong, and with all these eletronics... a lot can go wrong and extended warranty covered it.I have seen were people's extended warranty paid for itself several times for ABS incidents, engine probs like coolant leaks... A/C repairs and transmission repairs with the cheapest being over $600 canadian.

My warranty is almost over. I have about 32,000. Just decided to bring in my car for service for a window regulator problem (power windows). Service dept. just ordered the parts and I will make an appointment this Friday. everything is covered under warranty.

SavoyI think you are leading everyone here. I passed 54k this Sunday. What have you done for maintenance in the 120k miles?

That's a lot of driving! Not as much as Savoy, but still quite a bit! I've got a feeling that I'll need to dump my Vibe before the warranty runs out. With the luck I've had with mine, I'll probably have to file bankruptcy due to the whopping bills I'll be getting. I'm still covered for another 46K so that's a bonus, I think.... lol

I really need to change the oxygen sensor tho
