My Vibe had it's first oil change today. (She's getting old! LoL) I asked the one guy I know out at the dealer and he told me they just used regular engine oil in it. I thought they would have to use some kind of "made for small, high revin' engines" oil, but he said the tech said no. I thought the 8200 red line would break oil down faster.

If you're going to use conventional oil, then I would change every 3,000 miles. I'd recommend Castrol too. It's good stuff. DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT, use Quaker State or any other that other cheap crap. Castrol and Valvoline are good conventional oil.I use Mobil 1 synthetic in my Vette and I plan on using synthetic in the Vibe once I get the motor broken in. I'll probably change to the synthetic at my first oil change between 2,000 to 2,500 miles. Finally, I do my own changes, it's a pain, but I know it's getting done right.

Yeah, but Valvoline is better than Quaker State. If you want conventional get Castrol GTX, if you want synthetic, Mobil 1 is a good choice.

Yeah, they used Mobil synthetic and I *always* get the oil changed every 3000 miles. I put my cars through their paces, so I like to get the oil changed on the short side. It's not the oil that breaks down first, it's the chemicals in oil that keeps the engine healthy. I know Castrol GTX synthetic is suppose to be real good for these small engines.

I'm up to oil change number 4. I changed after 3000 each time using Quaker State synthetic blend. From what I am hearing here, I'll probably vhange to the Castrol or Mobil full synthetic. Most of my riding is highway and I don't beat on it too often so I might stretch it out to every 5000 miles.

I don't know about Quaker State synthetic, but the conventional oil actually sludges at fairly low heat levels. It's a proven fact. If you run your car even remotely hard, do not buy QS conventional.
