Floor Mats Warranty (carpet fibers coming off)

Post by ychartra »

My Floor mats are only 8 months old. (15,000 KMS) and the driver mat fibers are coming apart from the carpet. I have a small hole approx 1" wide by 1/4" tall where I can see the carpet backing. It's where my right heal rests on the floor. Has anyone else experienced such a problem? Have you requested replacement mats? What was the dealer's response?thanx in advance

This is considered normal wear and tear. It's happened in every car I ever owned.Buy a set of vinyl floor mats, you'll get rid of the problem.

Warranty does not cover wear and tear issues like your carpet problem, worn seats, bald tires and so on....

I've replaced mine last summer with the vinyl ones. Much better anyways than the stock carpet. I drive the GT and a spot wore through pretty quick.Besides, I don't think carpet is the best flooring material for a car anyways. Moisture from snow and rain tracked in with footwear makes for prime breeding grounds for bacteria and mold. The vinyl ones are tough, easy to maintain and clean.

Went to the dealer today... Figuring I had nothing to loose, asked nicely and impressed upon them the that the car was still under a year old. The service advisor has to verify with his manager, long story short they agreed to replace the carpet mats this time around.I'm a happy camper.

Very cool! Are they going to let you keep your old mats? If so, I'd say put them on top of the new mats to save the new ones. I have a set of mats on top of my original mats, cut down on quite a bit of wear.

I have a set of mats on top of my original mats, cut down on quite a bit of wear. As with any warranty issue in my experience, they are ordering new mats now. Once they come in, I have to bring the car in and have a service technician removed the old mats and install the new mats. In my opinion this is so they can collect warranty labour dollars from GM. It shoudn't take more than a minute or two to replace them. However, I am sure they will invoice GM for a good 1/2 hour at shop rate. That's fine by me as long as I am not paying. Once the new mats are in, I will follow Herb's advice and order a pair of vinyl mats for the front only and lay them overtop of the capet ones.
