Ok. I was at work today and I was driving a 04 Infiniti G35. Theyre running with 280hp, at least the ones we have run at 280, the 05 g35 runs at 298hp. They are pretty fast, but I still say 04 or 05 maxima is quicker off the draw and they run with 265hp. My point you ask?Do you think its possible to get a vibe up in that range. I just started getting into cars, mainly because Im either in one or around one 75% of the day. I heard people putting superchargers on base vibes (which I have now; the car, not the s/c) and achieving around 175hp. Thats basically the equivalant of a grand am, which is probably is lighter than a vibe. Grand am's are quick, but still no match for a max or g35.I ask all this because Im a crazy ******* who want to drive faster than 120mph but being able to do it in an unsuspecting vehicle. The fastest I've had my base up to was 117 on the road and 122 on the lift. People generally dont mess with you if your going 100mph+, this is just for those annoying situations where im cruising along at 80mph and somebody is doing like 82mph in the lane next you trying to pass and theres are car in front of them in their lane. I say if your going to pass somebody, blow by them and make it obvious your trying to pass dont take all day and then get mad when I dont let you over (mad meaning riding your tail faster than speed you where doing trying to pass). Obviously I have issues.I dont speed just to speed. I speed to get away from people, because dont trust other people.
I'd guess the Vibe is lighter than a Grand Am, but I'm too lazy to back it up.The G35 is the same thing as a Nissan 350Z (Nissan owns Infinit) so it's using a VQ35DE engine, you can get 357 HP from just a single aftermarket package on it. It's also a 3.5 liter 6 cylinder, as opposed to our 1.8 liter 4 cylinder.Yes, you can get far more than 300 horse out of the Vibe. If you kept the 1zz or 2zz engine (Base Vibe, and Vibe GT, respectively) you would have to change out stock internals (The parts that aren't built to stand that more power/torque) and probably some form of forced induction (Turbo would be your best bet here). You could also do an engine swap, and build a different, more race-proven engine. For instance: The Vibe is a Toyota, you could install a JDM 3S-GTE engine, a 4AGZE engine, or maybe (Although I doubt there's room in the Vibe's engine bay) a 2JZ-GTE (inline 6 Toyota Supra engine would be cramped, if it would fit at all). The three engines listed are all made by Toyota, and there are many times more aftermarket applications. Also, they are J-Spec which would prove more adaptable to modifications, as well as more powerful from the factory.Take my other car, for instance, a 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8S. It has 126 HP and 129 ft lbls of torque. Not that significant (Although it does have a nicer power curve, instead of just a peaky hp number) and from some research I've done, I can do a engine swap & conversion from a 1988 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R AWD. With this conversion, I could put a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) SR20DET (SR series 2.0 liter double overhead cam fuel injected turbocharged) engine into the Sentra, as well as the AWD 5 speed transmission, among other parts. The final (tghough expensive) end result would be a SR20DET-powered all wheel drive Sentra that could spank Corvettes. The possibilities are ALWAYS there, you just need to find someone with enough initiative (and money )
Black n Blue--sounds like you drive a lot like me .

I have a '03 Grand Am GT and I don't really consider it quick. It may be faster than a slightly modded base but my XRS (GT) is faster than it. The GA weighs over 3000lbs, plus it handles like a boat. The first 3 gears pull alright, but once it hits 4th it's pretty hard to get it up to 117mph. I've never been able to get it any faster because of drag. The only time the GA is faster than my XRS right is off the line, but once I hit lift in 1st I start to walk away. Now if I were to drop $5k on a Magnuson supercharger kit, it would be a different story. There's a turbo'd XRS running around in Washington state that is pushing 269whp. I think he has a $6k custom turbo kit. Here's his roll call:-super60 ball bearing turbo-all greddy sensors-greddy emanage-blitz 540cc inj-walboro fuel pump-greddy type S blowoff valve-all custom piping/manifold-DRAG front mount intercooler -custom 3" exhaustHe's on his 4th or 5th warrantied stock clutch though because of all the torque. He said his goal is for 300whp after tuning. There was also a turbo'd 1zz Matrix running around LA a year ago that, I think, was pushing around the same numbers. He has parted out his setup though, but I think someone on this board got his kit.

Follow my example, drive as often as you can so your warranty expires sooner and you can have fun sooner. You can even make money doing so!Cram as many drunks as you can in your car (Vans work best) stop at every gas station on the way, act like you're putting gas in, and make them pay for it!There's your new aftermarket parts right there
Yeah, screw the warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I put my turbo on at 5K!!!! why wait???????30k miles later, and I am right at the door of warranty...good thing I did not wait till now...I would have missed out of 2 years of boost!!!!!!!!PS....A celica with my turbo kit on the same 1zz motor dynoed at 251whp at 13 psi.....I have run 13 psi...soooooooooooo what is that at the crank?????????????????/??????????????????/

Interesting that you got it up to 122.

I currrently live in Germany and have an 04 Vibe automatic on the autobahn where there is no speed limits I can ge my Vibe up to 120 according to the guage but thats when the governer starts kicking in. Is there any chips in the market to bypass this?
This entire thread is cute. Real cute. You young ones who know more than us old geezers always blow my mind. You're the future, though, so have at it and continue to blow our minds.

Not sure if that applies to the Vibe application though.
