Based on a thread on matrixvibe.net it appears the '04 Car Brochure has the GT model rated at 173hp. The base Vibe with blower will be rated at 175hp. My thought and knowing what GM has done in the past with horsepower ratings, they're sandbagging the Vibe GT horsepower rating to encourage more people to step up to the supercharger package for profit and to decrease dependency on the 2ZZ motor.Any other thoughts?

quote:Any other thoughts? This is due to more strict emissions compliance on the engine put in place for 2004. If you see a picture of an 04 GT you will see additional emissions equipment installed in the engine bay.We got some info on this from the Michigan rally:quote:You can't put CAI's on 04's?From the looks of this new emissions-related air pump in the '04 GTs, no. There was a thread over at MatrixOwners a month ago that mentioned this issue as well. Upon closer inspection of an '04 GT at the meet, this pump is located almost exactly in the spot where the filter would be located on the CAI.Jeff Strausser said this was to reduce emissions and to bring the GT into a different emissions category, thus why the '04 GT is now rated at 173 HP vs. the 180 HP on the '03s. We did bring this to his attention about installation of a CAI and maybe we can get this addressed in the future (ie. movement of the pump to a non-invasive area). I'll try to dig up a pic of this new part.We were also told that removing this piece would throw a CEL as it's required to be monitored by the vehicle computer.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... 1#50761You may be able to cut the CAI down a few inches in order to clear this area but I cannot be certain yet.
So, does the '04 Matrix XRS not have this emissions device because it's still rated at 180hp? Gawd, glad I got an '03 Vibe GT, I love my CAI and I love my full 180hp. Does the base Vibe models not have this emissions device? If not, I would definitely get the base Vibe with S/C.

I thought this affects the Matrix as well as I read a CAI/2004 XRS-related thread out there saying the same thing.quote:Gawd, glad I got an '03 Vibe GT, I love my CAI and I love my full 180hp. I'm sure there will eventually be a way around this as time goes on and more 04's are out there.
Good point, but the '04 XRS is still rated at 180hp. Weird....

i have an '04 GT and when i went to the rally the rep said it was for emissions. it was an oxygen pump to help lower emissions. But i can still put on a short ram intake.

I wonder why an oxygen pump saps 7 horsepower. Seems kind of steep...

its probably tuned dfferently so they can make that emmission scale.
