I'd like to know the status of all those who are currently running with Sylvania Silverstars! If you NO LONGER use them you do not need to post to this thread.I know there is wide skeptisism about how long they last vs. cost not what i'm really interested in there are already a ton of threads with that info...what I'm looking for:How long have you been running with the current set?Is that with or without DRLs enggaged? How many bulbs have you gone through?
I have been running them in my Grand Am for about 4 months. One of the fogs burned out last week. Other than that, they rest seem to be running alright. I do have drl's on too. I just hope the others don't follow the other bulb's short lived life.
I had silverstars since around July 15th, 2003. The first set of headlights was replaced by January of 2004, one went in December, the other in January. The DRLs were disengaged when the second bulb was replaced. I believe they ran until I replaced them with HIDs in August of '04.The foglamps, however, are the set that were installed on that 2003 date, and the foglamps are generally on 95% of the time with the headlamps.

I have replaced both headlights twice, at 7 months both times. DRL on and 50,000 miles in 14 months. So each light lasted about 25,000 miles. The left and right burnt out within 2 weeks of each other both times. The foglights are still going at 16 months and are on about 50% of the time at night. According to my stats the bulbs last 7 months or 25,000 miles. The hardest thing on a light bulb is turning it on. Do you notice a light in your home usually burns out the moment it is switched on? With the light sensor on the Vibe being so sensitive, the lights turn on and off way too often, shortening their lifespan.

That initial burst of current is often what does a light bulb in... I guess one saving grace about our cars in that aspect is the DRL's. You're still running the lights all the time in some form or another... But, I'd say it is easier for them to go from x% to full rather than from 0% to full if we had the auto light control but no DRL's. If that was the case, I'd wonder how more frequent the failures would be...

I've got 16 months and counting on the Passenger side HL, got 9 months from the first on the driver's side (and by deduction, 7 and counting for the replacement). DRLs are functional, ~ 20,000 mi in that interval.
