Subaru B9 Tribeca

Post by AKLGT »

http://www.subaru.com/sub/b9/init.htmlforget the legacy GT, this will be better! plenty big enough for possible future plans, pulling a small trailer, classy and sleek looking, awd and most important, it hauls (removed)!

It looks like one of those European Renault or Alfa Romeo front ends. Looks like an Edsel! Didn't like the back either. Might be fast and have lots of room, but I don't think the looks would do it for me.

Most Subis are ugly and have been the way for years. Never liked them...

no one has to like it but the person purchasing/driving it. not a huge fan of the front end, but it is almost perfect for what i'm looking for! depending on $$$ it'll be that or the Legacy GT. this is just much more functional for an active lifestyle. it can pull a small trailer, hold enough people or things, awd, decent fuel economy, and awesome power! but i'm sure it'll be out of my price range since i want to get a house in 2 yrs.

Thanks for the link, Hope! Jazzy soundtrack loop. I grabbed a few stills from the site [Note to self: I'm beginning to hate FLASH websites with a passion...]I really like the styling of the new Subaru Legacy series (Japanese model shown hereThe fact that they're built 30 minutes away in Lafayette, Indiana and that my friend builds them there has nothing to do with it! Really. Now, about the B9 Tribeca (Tribeca Trivia - Did you know that 'Tribeca' is an abbreviation for TRIangle BElow CAnal = between the Hudson River and Broadway in New York)The GOOD... I like the 'Vibe-look' of the B9 roofline, and the overall profile is very Vibe-like until you get to the back end. Apparently this is a bigger vehicle than the Vibe, since it has seating for 7. I can only get 7 in my Vibe if two of them are in small pet-carriers (your 'girls', eh Hope!), or hanging on to the roof-rack!No doubt, 250 horsepower and AWD handling will make up for a lot of stylistic uh, atrocities. That's like having TWO 1zz 123hp Vibe AWD's. 10 cup-holders! That's 1.42857 per passenger! Awesome! 18" wheels standard Sound system with MP3 player, but it's optional. The BAD AND THE UGLY... IMHO B9 styling is, um, just plain U-G-L-Y! At least you don't have to look at the outside when you're driving it. I strongly dislike the 'new-look' front grille - just like Audi, Subaru seems to think that people want large, ugly horse-collars shaped things (Edsel anyone?) to adorn the front of their cars these days. They're using a version of it in their domestic market mini-cars too! Apparently it's their 'PT Cruiser' retro vehicle - ala 1958 Subaru mini-carsI'm reasonably certain that recent european standards for pedestrian safety have NOTHING to do with it, YET. The rear taillight treatment (depending on the angle you view it) looks like it was ripped directly from late 1990's Chevy Cavaliers or Mercury Sables. The two-tone interior is um, different. TOO different for me. I really dislike the light color below and the dark above. Seems totally 'upside down' to me. should be light above, dark below. 4245 pounds--It'll need 250 hp! WAY, WAY PRICEY! Don't know what MSRP is yet, but even a plain-jane Legacy Limited 4dr Wagon (non-Outback) with automatic starts at over $26,000 and an invoice price of over $24,000!!!I'll just sit and wave as you roar past, Hope!

Maybe Subi is learning and designing vehicles that seem to better then years past and hopefully have more vehicle options for consumers. Yes the B9 is heavy, different look for Subi but still ugly! Still do not see how the B9 "hauls (removed)"... Did not find 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times on the link and at that weight it will not.

If you're gonna get the Legacy GT, you might as well get that in a sedan because they don't look to apealing in the wagons. Or beter yet, get the 2nd fastest SUV in the United States, the Subaru Forester XT. My brother just got one and I was pleasently impressed.Inder

There is a 2005 Outback Sedan in our garage now, brand new, looks loaded too. While the style is not typical Subi ugly, it is nothing to brag about and looks just like "sedan plain". With a 3.0L engine the sticker said $31,665. Holy crap, sticker shock!! For that money there are lots of other choices out there and hipper styles. MPG was 19 city & fake "plastic" wood trim too.

Reminds me of the Nissan Murano. I'd consider this ONLY if someone releases an A/M grille...that thing is HIDEOUS /vomit /pukeEDIT: I like the interior, though Very unique (and that's what I aim for!)

As for looking like a Murano, I won't say that because I love the Murano and I really don't like this.

No personal attacks intended Hope, that front end is just NOT my cup of tea.But if you consider the 'price per cupholder', the B9 is going to be MUCH less expensive than your VibeGT! LOL

The FX has some big goofy looking dome on it and looks ridiculous to me. TheMurano's lines flow better and it looks like it was built all together instead of individual pieces like the FX (top piece welded to a bottom that don't go together).

I think both are pretty sharp looking vehicles...The FX LOOKS fast, which is one cool thing about it...The murano is well...weird...but not unappealing.

I am with you Hope. I like that SUV a lot, because it is different. But I also have a bad news, and that is the price:"The Tribeca goes on sale this summer and will be both Subaru's biggest and most expensive vehicle to date. It is a seven-seater crossover SUV that is more car than truck. A unibody platform carries four-wheel independent suspension, with a new control arm rear end and struts up front. Subaru has fitted the Tribeca with its most sophisticated all-wheel-drive system that incorporates stability control. Power comes from its familiar, 250-hp, horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine that drives through a five-speed automatic transmission that has manu-matic control. Subaru is very proud that the Tribeca has a center of gravity 1.5 inches lower than a BMW X5, yet still has 8.4 inches of ground clearance. Externally, the car incorporates the new face of Subaru-a grille that is said to represent the fuselage of an aircraft, with wing-like vents on either side. Inside, there is a new direction, too, with sweeping surfaces and very high-quality materials. The middle row of seats moves fore and aft, while both middle and back rows fold flat to the floor. The Tribeca will be very well equipped for a base price around $37,000, with power front seats, leather, all manner of air bags, and a power moonroof. Available goodies include DVD entertainment and touch-screen navigation systems. "

The available colours are great, especially Atlantic Blue Pearl and Mahogany Red Pearl. It looks like a BMW with an alien creatures face on the front.
