Exhaust Noise?

Greetings,I have an 03' base Vibe with 55, 000 km on it. When under load, I have a noise that sounds an awful lot like a tiny exhaust leak. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. It is a hissing sort of sound made when the engine is under load. Any ideas?Thanks in Advance

Now I'm not sure about your knowledge of cars, so if you know more than I suspect, I apologize for the stupid question.But to eliminate the obvious, do you have the A/C compressor on? I find when it's on the engine makes a lot of hissing as it works...

No, it works unrelated to Climate Control. But thanks. I am thinking something like 02 sensor gasket, or something like that. The regular warranty is just about up, so with the exhaust ruled out, the powertrain would cover manifold or head gasket if that were the case. At least I hope it would!! Hopefully it's not. The other possibility that occured to me is that perhaps some of the baffling in the converter deteriorated and it is just a bit louder. One other possibility is a vacuum leak, but there has been no noticeable deterioration in performance. Thanks again. James

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I am not a big GM fan but when pontiac came up with the vibe powered by Toyota I just had to get one. I have an 03 base model auto vibe. I still have no problems at 24000km, no raddle, no sunroof leaks...But last summer (summer of 2004) I started to hear this strange hush sound from my exhoust when under load. I can only hear this weird noise only when I press the gas peddle untill it kicks in to 50km/h. My problem sounds like jayemright 's problem. The way jayemright have described it, sounds just like mine. I went to my dealer and they couldn't hear it, I can hear it but they can't. Finally after driving like 30 mins, the tech noticed what I was trying to point out and he said that it was normal, which is coming from the air intake. jayemright did you get yours fixed? Please let me know. It really feels like I am driving a 3ton truck. I hate that hushing noise from the muffler. And also you can hear it more if you sit at the back seat.
